Default whoosh noise when lifting off?

have noticed in 1st/2nd/3rd most noticeably that when lifting off, I'm getting a whoosh noise almost like the wastegate noise, the car does seem a bit lacking in boost/responsiveness but it's had oil removed from some tubing as I had excess oil.

also, it seems to need more on the gas pedal for it not too stall, definitely more than it used to.

Check all the boost pipes/hoses and intercooler pipes/hoses are fitted correctly and not split etc.

Big black box in the engine bay. What year and model do you have?

i've checked the fittings in the red highlighted areas, still no joy. it boosts but there's very little pull after 3k revs

the boost gauge still tails off and lift off "whoosh" is still there.

Really no expert but going by past experience on my RB5, had reduced boost and lack of power when the knock sensor failed (no whoosh though) - and then hesitation, poor response coming onto boost when the boost solenoid needed a good clean out...

the boost solenoid (and pipe) was checked and cleaned for oil and made the initial problem better in that i had boost again, but its the top end lack of boost that is worrying.

the whoosh is only really noticeable if i'm at high revs then lift off, at low revs its either hardly noticeable or not even there.

Only other thing Zen told me when they rebuilt the engine is that the pipe can crack going into the recirc dumpvalve on the intercooler - they checked mine - worth a look?
(where the the large hose goes on the righthand side as you look at it - top right of your picture)

Neil at Slowboy Racing.............just opposite Brands Hatch.

Have had great service.

Don't think anyone on here has a bad word to say about him.

as it happens, i gave neil a call just under 2 weeks ago, had a bit of a chat and explained to him the problem, or rather i didn't know what the problem actually was.

he said he wasn't sure of his workload and that he'd call me back once he'd checked (as it was the jubilee weekend), he had my mobile but never did in the end.

part of me wonders why i should go back to them if he hasn't bothered to call me back, granted it might have slipped his mind but didn't leave a very favourable first impression.

He usually calls me ok.
Sorry to hear he didn't call.He runs his own small garage so can be as busy as a one-armed taxi driver with crabs.

Give him another go.I am sure you won't be disappointed.

my rule of thumb is that if a company can't be bothered to call me back in order for me to spend money with them, then they don't get my business (and potential repeat business for yearly servicing)

coincidentally enough however, neil gave me a call yesterday whilst i was on the train, i'm expecting a call back today..

neil sorted the problem and very happy with the service, he came across as very knowledgeable and nice guy to boot, after a bit of testing, he got the problem fixed very quickly indeed.

didn't realise that it was that small an operation so totally understand why he didn't get back to me sooner. on the flip side, he's more or less got himself a new customer for pretty much any scooby related work now!

it was the solenoid (wastegate? it's some sort of solenoid!), in the pic i posted, its the thing the top left red highlighted hose is plugging into.

he tested it as it was when i brought it in to get a feel for what was happening. swapped it out with another one he had but same problem (!) which then turned out to be a duff solenoid so tried yet another he had and boosts like a boosting champ

thankfully a very quick bit of diagnostics and fixing!
