Keep or Sell up?
Hi people, I'm in to minds at the moment as to what to do and would value some thought and opinions on this.
I currently own a WRX 95 prefacelift it is running the standard 250/260 bhp depending on the dyno, owned it since October last year for £2k and have had no problems at all with it. The car is in great condition, only on 50k, pretty standard apart from the decat, exhaust, panel filter etc etc.
The only thing that is nagging me is tuning it, there are so many horror stories on scoobynet that always seem to involve a prefacelift and an expensive rebuild, or the pathetic ty752 gearbox ****s its self when upping the power.
I previously owned a UK Turbo 2000 and it just felt more solid espsh the gearbox, so do I keep a great nic WRX and just be happy with what it is, or just so for a later classic STI?

If you want more power without the hassle of tuning just sell up and buy a better spec Impreza.
If it's legit low mileage and in good condition with documented servicing you shouldn't have a problem getting most if not all your money back on your current wrx.

If you want to minimise the chances of the engine/box going bang when tuning then forget the classic all together and buy a newage sti.....Going from a 95wrx to a classic sti isnt really going to cut it.
In saying that tho, it really depends how far you want to take tuning.....Plenty of classics of all years running over 300 ponies with no issues....Had a few myself.

Iv got a classic running 450 BHP fully forged Simtec RCM turbo 6 speed box & a load more mods. I love the car & won't get rid of it now & other members with similar or more powerfull classics will tell you the same. However you need really deep pockets to build a Classic like this. A better starting point is a newage STI early bug eyes go for peanuts now & youv already got the 6 speed & Brembos.

Surely the gearbox depends on your driving style, if you launch it everywhere its not going to last, if your fairly conservative they will last pretty well no matter what bhp/torque. And as said gearboxes are always for sale on here

Mostly just plodding about in the car really, can't be doing with silly launch's anymore too worried about something going bang

Just a TY52 STi box mate...good for 300bhp/ftlbs but anything more and they just eat themselves over time till one day they just die doing seemingly nothing.
True to a certain extent Matt, but as soon as you start putting 1.4 bar through a box that`s used to .8 it doesn`t take too much hard driving to weaken and eventually destroy it. Driving style can only do so much, boost is boost
