on the lookout for a classic STi
hi,
Ive finally sold my old car and am on the lookout for a classic impreza.
im looking for a 97-2000 classic but really want a standard STI.
the thing thats worrying me is that im no subaru enthusiast so im not massively knowlegeable about these cars and so im wanting to know how do i tell an sti from a normal 200bhp wrx.
I see on wikipedia you can tell by the chassis number letters but I see alot about "Genuine Red top" on adverts. obviously meaning the top of the engine is painted red. but not all classic STi's that im looking at either on autotrader or ebay have the red painted engine but are still described as STi's.??
will they be described as STI on the V5c?

All STI models (except the very first one, 1994) have red manifolds. However, many of them would of lost their paint by now. The only way to tell is by putting the applied model code into the site in the link above.
Just be very careful, the amount of non STI's that are advertised as STI's is beyond a joke, never believe the seller. Do your own research on the car.
A good tip is to post any link to a car on here and let us look it over.
