Gb270 or sti
General question, is it worth paying that extra 3 to 4k more for an sti as this http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3666262.htm or would I be better off buying a GB270 for 10k with 19,000 miles? Does anyone on here have a GB and are really happy with performance compared with that of an sti?
Thanks
Thanks

Drive both yourself to see which you prefer. All these threads ever generate is views biased towards the car the poster owns.... Personally I would mod the GB270......

Depends on what you want now and more importantly in the future. The GB270 and a standard STI are very similar performance wise. STI has (mechanically) better brakes, stronger gearbox, better intercooler, bigger turbo/different heads. The gearbox is what really makes the STI so much better when modding. Both are relatively easy to get into the 350-370BHP/lbft range (familiarise yourself thoroughly with the 2.5 engine/HG/Pistons/Ringland failures) and both need basically the same engine rebuild if going 400+BHP but the GB270 needs £3-3.5K for either an uprated gearkit or a six speed.
I bought the GB270 Wagon new as I needed a wagon, changed the brakes immediatley, T25 supsension/chassis kit 1 year later and SC42/Milltek/STI TMIC etc a year later - running 360BHP/350lbft which I love - want more now and looking at rebuild & gearbox.
Every one has their own opinion - Drive both and see what you prefer - if you are going to mod then STI.
At £13-14K you are well into JDM/Spec C money I think? See for sale section as there is one in there at the moment.
Additionally a standard WRX is £3-5K cheaper than a GB270 and that money would make a nice WRX for the road.

Thanks I will have a look in the for sale section. I think I will go for the sti as I'm done with upgrading things these days and would rather purchase one already done. I thought 13k would secure a good example say a 2007 low milage sti but I'm fussy as to what i want. So it's quite difficult to find them the now.
