Default ECU Connection

Hi,

I'm trying to connect my laptop to my ECU to check an error code with a USB-to-OBDII lead and I'm not having much luck. I've tried it on a mac and PC laptop and with a couple of different pieces of software. I can get the laptop to recognise the lead and once as far as it asking me which specific model Impreza I have (so it must have done something) but it won't read the error codes - just says disconnected.

Anyone got had a similar experience?

Thanks for the info - that'll be useful for understanding what the codes means. I can't actually get that far. The software seems to know I'm in an Impreza because it asks me to choose the specific model but won't do anything else.

Scratch that last. I thought "Connect Error code Connectors" referred to the ODBII connector but it sounds like I have to connect them under the dash before that - I'll go try.

Thanks again.

I've made some progress but still no cigar; I connected the two green connectors under the dash. When I turned the ignition on (but didn't turn the engine over) the engine management light flashed as expected and I got a regular whirring and stop sound from under the hood. Still not able to actually read the code though.

Apologies if this is painfully obvious - newb...
