What you got ?

Ive seen a gizzmo one at 170 quid, are they any good ? I want to type in a max boost pressure and have it across the rev range.

Don't bother with ANY boost controller if you want have engine in one piece without the mapping,ECU usually can control Boost up to 1.55-1.65bar above that I would go with different ECU or boost controller as Apexi

No, Its purely boost. It has as inbuilt processor and its own solenoid.

Ive no intention of raising it over 1.2 bar. I want 1.2bar across the range not just at maximum revs.
I have been running a manual valve with boost gauge for months with no probs. Re installed my Standard 2 port solenoid today and the car is so slow and mid range is like a sporty nasp car. It does boost to 1.2 eventually at 110mph in 5th gear. I want max boost alot lower down the rev range than that.

It's the ECU that really needs to set boost along with fuelling / ignition / revs / load / gear etc, I have an AVCR but had to have it mapped alongside the ECU.

The bad news is that if the ECU thinks there is a problem then limp mode will not reduce boost.

What car have you got? The DENSO ECU in the newage is pretty good

Ive got a bugeye turbo with ppp and 99 octane remap. My manual boost valve works great and the car boosts from low down and consistently through the rev range. I dont like the standard denso 2 port solenoid set up because everything is at the top end. mid range loses most. i dont want 1.2bar at 5000rpm , i want it at 3000rpm, which my manual valve lets it do,

Mark.

But sticking in more air at lower revs when the ECU is expecting less will make it run lean.......The bug DENSO ECU is pretty good (I've got a bug turbo) and runs the TD04 turbo pretty well.

If it's not boosting until 5000 RPM on a TD04L turbo then something is wrong

IMHO you don't need an electronic boost controller, you need the car looking at and if all ok then a 3 port and an open source map

I know what you are saying mate, but it actually runs tip top with the manual valve set at 1.2bar. very smooth and powerful and sounds spot on. The car does boost with the denso, but hovers around the .5 to .6 bar for a long time and to get it to 1.2bar you have to floor it .( which makes you rev the car higher than you really need to. On a test run today it took till 110mph in 5th to see 1.2 fluctuating. I would like 1.2 bar at 80mph in 5th flooring it. It like acts on a delay.

Yeah wrx prodrive. It runs spot on. Im just wanting to ditch the manual valve and get a solenoid set up that gives me a broad range of power, not all at the top end.

........then get it checked out, ditch the restrictive downpipe cat if you can , check the filter is up to the job and then call someone like Duncan at racedynamix to remap the ECU

http://racedynamix.co.uk/

Believe me the DENSO ECU is a shed load better looking after the car than anything else at your level of mods.

Ive got a quality de cat up pipe on and the egt bypass etc and a 2nd de cat, filter is K & N panel filter, i may swap to a pipercross cotton filter tho. Are you running a sports cat downpipe ? They are on my list to buy, but i keep seeing people on here with MOT failures with them fitted. Ive seen the 200 cell ones, not a bad price either and i can fit it myself.

I have a complete 3" de-cat and a friendly MOT station LOL

Seriously though, I ran my bug with decat / induction / 3-port / TD05-18G / methanol injection plus a few more mods on just the stock re-mapped DENSO ECU.

You don't need an electronic boost controller for your car, just needs sorting IMHO.

OK mate. I have got a TD05 in the wings anyway. A 3 port will follow.
