fitted new pads discs and calipers today ..great however after bleeding the brakes ...once driving the car slowly and pushing my foot down i have no brakes... .. if i leave the car on tick over and push down the brakes up and down a few times they stiffen up hard but then once leaving them for a few minutes they go all soft and i have no brakes again.. ???? . i had a mate round and he said the servo might have gone ??? aint got a clue.. im just wondering if i have done something silly and thats why they dont work ...help please

 

air in the system...you will need to bleed the air out so there is only fluid in the system. Lots of info on brake bleeding on here and t'interweb...search is your friend

 

i have bleed them already ...is that the only fault it can be ??

 

Dunno how you bled them but you could get yourself a vacuum bleeding kit (loads on E-bay for about £20ish ), really easy to use and you don't need anyone to help with the "up,down,up,down - hold" brake pedal thing which is a bit hit & miss

 

probably if you have made no other changes

 

Did mine yesterday and was worried, car was stood for a few weeks with no front calipers on. They did feel a little spongy after I had filled and bled the system.

I thought I had got the air out but left it overnight and bled again this morning and the was a fair bit of air in the front calipers, maybe try leaving overnight too let the air bubbles collect and see if you can't get a bit more out?

When you bled them did the brake resevoir run dry as it needs to filled all the time to keep fluid in the lines, If it runs out you WILL get air in the lines, Or have you not tightened one of the nipples up, Does it still have the same amount of fluid in there or has any leaked out?

 

i think in all honesty i have probably not bleed them properly buy the way u are all saying this ..might buy one of those kits to save the hassle lol...keep u posted cheers for the comments

 

it sounds like you still have air in system an easi/bleed kit and bleed aback first working your way to the drivers side caliper last

 

Make sure you do them in the correct order

do a search loads on here

 

Don't know if I do it 100% but I always start bleeding the caliper FURTHEST from the master cylinder (passenger side rear) and then in seqeunce to the closest (drivers side front).

Fill fluid nice and slow so as not to introduce extra air into the liquid, don;t pump pedal like a nutter as this can aerate the fluid as well.

well found out today that the pots are seized on this set as well...well pissed off ..2 sets and 2 sets seized

 

You have put the calipers on the right side havent you? Bleed nipple needs to be at the top. If its at the bottom they wont bleed properly

Yes. If the pistons were seized the pedal would be rock hard. The fact it goes soft and can be pumped up is 100% coz of air in the system.

If the calipers have been put on the wrong side. (bleed nipple at the bottom). Its impossible to bleed all the air out.

Loads of people do it so dont be to bothered. Just swap the calipers over.

 

Years ago I did mine when fitting goodridge hoses. D'OH missed that there were two bleed nipples on each caliper. Had done the outside set of pistons but not the inner ones OOPS.

 

did exactly above and fitted my calipers wrong side

no amount of bleeding will fix, air rises and has to coem out the top

on plus side easy fix, swap over, bleed nipples at top, and bled in 20mins

its easy when you know how eh, lol

Mine have never been the same since having new discs and pads fitted on the rear I just live with it now
