Whatyear youlooking at, and budget you thinking? Some people run standard blocks at 500bhp and get away with it. Personally i'd go for something like a billet sc46 or a billet 321t with supporting mod and go for around 450bhp

i have a blob sti and am currently going down a similar route, handling wise i have fitted bc coilovers and white line arbs, anti lift kit and cdf drop links and then had geometry set up.
brake wise im changing brembos to ap racing.
i have engine parts but not fitted as yet until i get time, sc46 turbo, front mount, reworked lateral injectors, induction kit, ported headers and 3 inch full decat system.

im hoping for around 400 to 450 ish depending on whether i use meth or not.

the handling parts are all fitted and can tell you they are an excellent upgrade, engine parts are in my garage awaiting time to fit as i want to do the whole lot in one go so it can be remapped straight away.

Sounds like a decent set up your going to be running tommy. How are the bc coilovers? i went the ast route and there spot on. Currently got a 2.5 in my 2005 sti but just invested in a cdb so going the 2.1 route now

be aware though its not a cheap thing to do and you will never get the money back on resale although some money can be recouped from selling removed parts i.e the old turbo, top mount and brembos.
im not sure if yours is an everyday car or not but the car will need mapping everytime an engine mod is done otherwise you run the risk off blowing it up.

the coilovers are fine, i have had them on for a couple of months now and find the ride much better on the softer setting than the original sti shocks were and the car looks much better now as the arch gap is scarily big on standard stis.

For an idea on spec have a look at mine: http://thrll.com/car/2004-subaru-impreza-12488

My turbo is a lil on the laggy side for a stock 2.0 but as mentioned above i think a sc46 billet or a 321t billet would be perfect!

Talking of modding sti's and upgrading the suspension. Is it a good idea to keep original shocks and just get some shorter springs. (don't like to use the phrase "lowering springs", sounds too chavvy). I like the ride of the sti just sits too high IMHO.

coilovers give better adjustability than lowering springs, shorter springs are fine for looks purposes, although get a good make and dont chop your own.

I had no intention of chopping my own. That was back in the late 90's on my nova sr.

just checking, lowering springs are fine if your just looking to change the stance of the car although they will effect the ride quality

My 03 sti was on prodrive lowering springs for years . I was amazed how much better (faster on the same roads) it was with BC coilovers !

That's the answer I was after. So it will affect the ride quality. That's what I don't want. Looks like I'm gonna have to go for a new full set up.
