Default Rough classic track car weight

Whats the rough weight of a classic in 'stripped out track mode' with a simple bolt in cage fitted? I'm using 500kgs as my trailer guide weight.

Trying to work out what cars I can tow with legally. I don't want a huge gas guzzler or a 4x4. I suspect I may struggle though.......

less than a 1,000kg is easily done

OK EFA,, 1,000kg can be done easily with the right parts (light weight bits ect) but it will cost a bob or 2

No it's not..

Mine was stripped out pretty well.
No carpets, no sound deadening, tools and spare wheel gone, rear seats and door cards out, heavy exhaust manifold swapped for stainless, lower dash removed, all unessasary trim and brackets removed, air con out, lightweight battery, no speakers or stereo whatsoever, light wheels, electric mirrors removed, spoiler off and probably a few other bits and bobs.
Without my cage it came in at 1140 KG with quarter tank of fuel if I remember correctly.
Next step was poly windows and carbon panels but decided not to in the end. Refitted door cards, dash and carpets plus added a cage.

Hmm interesting, 1140? I thought it'd be under the 1100kg mark but that just goes to show eh!

Does anyone know the kerb weight of a standard UK Turbo 2000?

I`d agree with Matty there, 1100kg might be more of a target, still not easy though unless you start with a Wrx RA as that is the lightest base car to start with and i think that came in at 1170kg

You better hope your lass doesn't read this site buddy,
No people in the car and it was a classic STI V3

1100KG is doable if it's just gonna be a track car. Under a ton takes some work though, have a chat with Clive (mad hammer) or Mr Forrest.

If you add fibre glass doors, boot etc you can certainly lose a lot of weight. Although it will cost more to get down to 1000kgs than to buy a suitable tow car.

1240kg springs to mind.

1/4 of a ton is NOT easy to lose.

So you can get a L200 or a Hilux type vehicle, you won't see 30MPG i don't believe, but it will pull a gross train weight of around 5500KG.

You could get a van like a Renault Traffic and this can tow 2000KG as set by the manufacturer, gross train is around 4500KG but from what i have gathered vans aren't that reliable and with the Traffics it seems the gearboxes go around 70000 and just generally have various problems.
Ford Transits seems better, but they can't pull a good weight legally, there GTW is only 3500KG.

BUT what you really want to buy that is cheap, reliable, eco and and can tow 2000KG is a... Ford Galaxy 00>, VW Sharan or Seat Alahbrama*.

This is what i'm going to be buying, well one of them.

Thanks

I think I can safely say that the car will be 1200kgs max and the trailer no more than 500kgs max so a car with a tow capacity of 1700kgs or more will be the ones I'm looking at.

A van is out of the question as the tow car will be my daily.

A 7 seater is the best option for me but will need one that will tow a min of 1700kgs which is the likes of a Sharan Galaxy etc (can't stand them tbh!). I like the Touran (owned a 2.0 TDi before) but it hasn't quite got the legal tow capacity even in TDi guise with 170bhp Imo, it'd be more than capable of the task though.

Transit Torneo has a max tow weight of circa 2800kgs but is a little on the large side and a Torneo Connect (which would be ideal) hasn't quite got the towing capacity! Doh.

As far as i'm aware unfortunately the only good tow car that is cheap is a Ford Galaxy type car, not the nicest car but will get the job done at a good price and it can be used as a dailey.
I'm looking at the positive side that it's a big car also that i can get pit bikes, and sleep in lol.

Thanks

Be careful which one you buy. Early Galaxys can only tow circa 1585kgs

Later ones around 2002 (MK2 Galaxy I believe) can tow 1800-2000kgs dependant on engine/transmission.

Tow car statistics and the laws surrounding towing are an absolute minefield as I've found out!

You may find this site useful. Lists many cars and their max tow weights

Best I managed was 1215kg with half a tank.

That was stripped etc no interior apart from 2 front seats and dash.

by the time i added a bolt in cage, big brakes, big anti roll bars and swirl pot etc it added alot though so chances are you will be about std weight +/-50kg.

95wrx BTW
