I found out this afternoon that some b*****d tried to nick my car last night

They did no damage whatsoever but were able to open the door, thus setting off the alarm and scaring them away. Although I am relived that they did not get it, it does alarm me (no pun intended) that the doors were so vulnerable. Any suggestions for defence?

The worst thing is that I have had no trouble at all with unwanted attention for the 5 months I have it, but I now know some ****** is targetting my car. I think I may get one of those removable steering wheels, I guess it is the ultimate deterent (except me sleeping in the car with a baseball bat)

Be safe,

Richard

How did they open the door? I suppose it must have been kids. A Pro would have been prepared to deal with the alarm.

I hope it was kids, I am sure if they had got it they would have killed themselves the brakes need doing and it doesn't have ABS.

I won't post the way they opened the door here (I e-mailed you direct Nick) but needless to say it is well blocked in tonight and if someone did try to start it the Blitz exhaust would soon wake me now.

An idea from my old renault gt turbo and cossie days is to remove the doorlocks from the car.

its always a fave to punch the lunck righ through the door - dead easy to do as well.

so remove them all and they cant do it

I would definitely invest in a disklok (80 quid), a bit of a pain to fit and remove but hard to remove.

I also put in a heavy duty post in the drive which sinks into the ground when not required. AutoPA do one although I got mine from another company whose name escapes me.

I'm considering the gearbox lock.

Glad they didn't get your car.

Glad they didn't get your car, Richard.

There's a company that makes a security post called Sentinel that was discussed on this BBS around last May/June. A search for "sentinel" and similar spellings (e.g. "sentinal") should bring up the correspondence and a website address.

From reading people's views on here I think my next modification will be a gearbox lock.

David

But isn't there any way of making the doors more secure? I like the idea of disabling the remote central locking, but is there anything else that can be done?

Can deadlocks be fitted? If so, how much, and do they completely prevent the opening of the door?
