dump valve
hi all,
i've just bought myself a GB270 after having my 2000 turbo for 8 years and wanted another scooby, still got the old car and think ill not get much for it as the rear aches are blown and inside rear arches are gone as well. still runs well though.
back to the main question anyway, i was wondering whats the best dump valve to buy that would work the best a sound great as well.

To be honest, unless you have the re-circulating adaptor on the HKS then I would not recommend that either. The dump valve dumps air before the turbo but after the MAF sensor so will make the car run rich if a vent to air is fitted. Possibly, only possibly causing bore wash and damage to your engine.
The standard one dumps air back into the system so corrects the problem.
That said, I had my car mapped with the HKS fitted so my ECU is corrected for the fuel problems created by the vent to air dump valve and car runs perfect.
Chances are if you fit an aftermarket dump valve it wont cause problems, but you have been warned.
Don’t think Bailey are recommended, although I had no problems with one years ago. Get mixed results. Best do a search on this site. There is LOTS of info about dump valves already discussed at great length.

haha ... how many people per week turn up saying "i want to make my car do an impression of lorry air brakes every time i change gear cos it makes the girlys moist innit!"
Seriously .... whats the fudgin point!
As said before, unless youve got rid of your maf sensor, keep it standard recirculating!

Hi all, I am new to Scoobynet, soory to hijack this thread but unsure how to post a new one. I brought my 2000 turbo yesterday. On the 20 mile drive home all was okay. I have not driven a car with a dump valve before. When at cruizing speeds on the motorway say 70-80 if I hold a constant spped there is a very light hissing. This goes if I give a dab of accelorator or take foot off accelorator.
Under harsh accelorating there are no leaks until gear change and dump as you would expect.
I have not investigated what parts it has on it in detail yet as needs a good clean up will then post pics etc. Can anybody confirm if this is normal?
Thanks for your help and I look forward to being an active member of this club.

Thanks for reply, I am pretty sure its not as it sounds like the dump valve, why would the sound go when I take foot off gas or put a put more foot on? My thoughts are that the dump valve maybe a little worn, is this possible?

yes it has a cone filter! looks like it needs a clean though. Any other confirmations out there that this is normal? It does run a little rough whilst the hiss is on, but as soon as a dab or throttle or easy off, all is fine again.
I did ask seller what fuel he has been using, he said normal unleaded, I immediately filled with Optimax. Could this make any difference. I would think that it would be a more overall engine running and performance issue for underrated fuel used, but I am no expert. Thoughts anybody?

Sounds normal then mate it's just the turbo whooshing thru the air filter as for the rough running see if it' clears after a few tanks of super maybe give it a full service plugs etc if still no joy take it to your nearest tuner they will be able to give u better advise etc

Timmay. I would get your car checked out at a specialist. Turbo 2000s don't take kindly to cone filters and dump valaves without a proper remap and even then you can get issues due to them needing further mods to make them work properly with those changes. Not having a go and beig a stick in the mud before the usual newbie mob wade in, but equally don't want you posting on here in a week or so saying my engine has gone bang! If the car has not been set up for the filter and DV I would get them back to standard ... she'll run better apart from anything else.

cheers for the advice, the car has been mapped and tuned quite heavily, rebored to 2.2 with cosworth pistons gasket valve springs, then re-mapped by powerstation, with the boost control valve. I assume this was done on current dump valve and filter set up but can't be sure.
I am pretty new to subaru's and brought this on a whim as was bored of my current car. I am more used to my westfield with carbs and no turbo, but built that engine from scratch so got a mini idea about engines, just not turbo's and remapped fuel injections.
I think i'll run if for a while not giviig it too much spirit whilst I get used to it. Then give a full service.
Are dump valves re-buildable/servicable? Has anybody known of one to fail? I have no idea of the make of mine, but will do some research.
I brought the car with very limited receipts, so was a bit of a punt, but runs well with no strange noises. The previous owner suggests 395bhp, but doesn't feel like that to me, but I am running less than 1 bar boost at the mo, so thiose figures could have been with upping the boost to over 2 bar. Not totally sure on the other mods, but its had 9 owners before me and still only has 63k on the clock.
If there are any knowledgable scooby owners near basingstoke who want to make my life easier and try and identify what mods and bits and bobs I have on it?
