Hmmm, Porsche have tried it on the new 911 and everyone hates it, so if they can't get it right then you'll going to need a bit of a following wind...

Totally different system Fatboy

Porsche is a pure electric rack...i.e a motor on the pinion shaft which physically turns it, there is no hydraulics or valving.

The above conversion is just an electric pump that replaces the original engine driven one. Its still the same hydraulic system as before, just a different pump is providing the line pressure.

All the assistance and valving is in the rack itself...so long as the pump can maintain line pressure the feedback when it is running should be identical. But in this case it isn't, either due an air leak (PAS fluid can foam up and cause pump cavitation), or the pump can't meet the demand either due to it being inadequate to power that rack (as its a heavier car) or its faulty.

That's the theory, but it's hardly working right now and i do remember others (was it adam M or slooby?) trying it for packaging reasons and abandoning it as they couldn't get it to work satisfactorily either.

If the pump can't maintain line pressure when turning, then the assistance won't work properly. Simple as that, be it engine driven pump or a motor driven one.

Either the pump is too small to run the scoob's rack or its getting air in there (bad shaft seals or the pipwork/pump has pump has been located so the feed/return pipes trap air etc). Thats assuming the pump is running at full speed and isn't suffering from a voltage drop in the wiring/earthing (think of a slow spinning pump as a slipping ancillary belt).
