There's been signs up on the A65 for over a year now, but I've never spotted a camera. I'm doing an early morning blast from Bradford to Scotland tomorrow (5am start) and was wondering if any of you know if there are any cameras installed yet!
Yes, I know about the Skipton Police scoobies, and I make a point of slowing down for the 40/30 limits in the villages too (unlike most of the wallys who drive this road in summer, who do 45mph *whatever* the limit and road conditions!)
Cheers,
Steve

Two ways of knowing. The easy but expensive way or the cheaper more difficult one.
1. Buy a morpheous geodesy. That will give you up to a mile notice of every speed camera in the country.
or

Millband,
I take it you mean the bit by Skipton?
The signs have been there for ages like you say, but still no cameras.
Skipton police do speed gun checks there from time to time though... usually in the marked Scoobies they have, keep a look out
Don't forget to look out for their unmarked MY00 DMB Scooby as well.
Cheers

Unfortunately, the signs can be up to 11 miles from the Cameras - I don't think they are allowed to put signs that are further away than that though....
Probably wouldn't stop them though...
Matt.

Cheers Guys. The signs are all along the A65, but no cameras at all never mind within 11 miles.
Gary - do you remeber where? I didn't see any when I last went that way earlier in the year (and no tickets yet!).
I'm not too mad a driver anyway, but I'll have to be extra-aware now I've warned every traffic cop who may read the board that I'll be whizzing by tomorrow! D'oh!

Skipton, my specialist subject, I live there/here! I was on the A65 about three weeks ago, didn't see any cameras at all.
With Skiptons five scoobs, one umarked the rest stickered up I'd be tempted to go steady on the Skipton by pass, you'll be ok after the lay bys and go steady on the Settle by pass aswell.
Off topic but if you pass at a reasonble hour, on the way back perhaps the Goat gap inn does fantastic meals plus it has a helicopter pad! Have a look at

Got back 8pm last night, there are def. no cameras on the A65 (but all over the A9 like a rash!). I'd say from some of the new road markings and what looks like new signs on some of the villages that cameras may well be on the way in time for summer though...
BOB - yes, I've been to the Goat Gap before, had some good food there.
Ian - £555? That's pretty appropriate fine for a Scooby! As it happens I had a lucky escape on the way back. I've seen the unmarked police car before and had just said as much to my mate while doing 80 on the Skipton by-pass when lo - there it was in the layby (He was parked at an angle and I could see the gaps in the grill where the blue lights are). I slowed down to 60 straight away and cruised past, only to have a Range Rover blast past me at well over 80. The police scooby didn't react though, so he was obviously mid-burger! (or he was using a laser camera and didn't need to stop us, in which case I'm doomed...)
Had a good weekend's skiing (sunny!!), lots of scoobs about but only one wave, oh well.

Millband,
£555 - appropriate yes - I've still not recovered from it yet! Especially as my Solicitor had warned me that the fine could even be as much as £300........
I came down the A65 on my motorbike on Sunday:-
(1 x Marked Volvo T5) +
(1 x Marked Scooby MY2000) +
(1 x Unmarked Scooby DBM MY1999)
= 60MPH
Cheers,
Ian E

We were up the A65 on sunday and plod were out in force, stopped for some petrol at harden bridge garage and the owner warned us about the 2 scoobs and the volvo. Also saw an
unmarked maroon volvo just setting up with gun, did my bit and flashed some bikers to
slow down...
I think they knew what I meant.
I did'nt see any camera's though, and the scoobs are for catching bikes, and have PPP..
Be good....

Millband, I must of just missed you! I did exactly the same going the other way! Must of been around 8 ish? I have a black Fiesta, the front bumper's not on at the mo, did you see me?
The guy in the scoob isn't bad really, he stopped me the other day cos my tax had fallen out of the window! He also checked all the VIN plates etc, it all checks out!

Bob - went past the layby at about 7:30, so a bit earlier than you.
Ian - "Ouch" on the fine by the way, (I meant appropriate as in the 555 sponsored rally cars, not on the punishment level!) hope I've not got one in the post now...
