Default Scoob Noob saying Hi with a couple of Q's

Hi all, just purchased a 2 liter nasp sport wagon and I have a couple of questions.

Are the engines strong units and are they capable of 150k + miles without a rebuild?

I have noticed a slight transmission whine which is more audible in lower gears. Is this normal for this type of car?

if its been looked after and serviced regularly there is no reason it wont do 150k.
if its a slight whine i would change diff and gearbox oil and not worry too much.

Hi, thanks for the link, I'm in Chesterfield. So can the boxer engine take a lot of stick? Are there any common weak points I need to know about on my scoob?

They are pretty bomb proof but by the sounds of it your gearbox/diff is on it's way out. Mine has done over 100k and there are no whines what so ever.

You can get a whine if the tyres are not evenly worn. i.e. if they have been renewed seperately or are different brands. This then eventually transforms into a rumble. This is what happened to me on my NA forrester. I thought a wheel bearing had gone.

Solution - renewed all tyres and back to normal.
