Default the unluckiest scooby owner ever = me :-(

hello all , so some of you will know my journey with scooby ownership so far has been a very hard and unfortunate one to say the least ! just to recap 1st went the turbo ! so had it replaced with brand new vf34 + other upgrades such as fuel pump, sti cooler, injectors etc had it a week then goes the piston ring !! off road for year and a half , whilst saving for rebuild i decided ill get 4 new tires ,new clutch all new bulbs round the whole car and loads of goodies for dress up ! had engine rebuilt with sti internalls by api and made 360bhp on the rollers "although they were out slightly" i was over the moon way home exhaust fell in half so got that welded the next day . then to go with my new found power i had to upgrade brakes so got 4 new discs and orange stuff pads from godspeed . found out pad retaining pins were seized in and would need replacing so got new stainless items . week later went back to fit only to find out pistons were seized in the calipers !!! got hawk eye calipers off ebay and got them fitted ! all was good til last night !!! ................................................ gearbox lets go in first gear
now you know the score , ive spent absolute thousands on this car and its a keeper now , so going ahead with repairing it eventually . can anyone tell me how much they paid for a full 6spd conversion "not dccd" ive had one rough quote so far at 3k but interested to here from you lot
at least once its done i can upgrade to md321

Sorry to hear about your woes mate. I have a 6 speed in my classic and the conversion kit cost me £1570 but I sold the R180 rear diff and used a UK R160 I had laying around so it actually only cost me £1370 and I then sold my gearbox that was still intact!

TBH you can pick up everything you need for around £1500 these days and it's easy to fit

Good luck

Unlucky to go at that.......unless you have got a shed load of cash to spare for a 6 speed and bits I'd go for a blob WRX recon gearbox......should be able to handle that BHP / Torque

My 6 speed conversion from APi was near enough £3k

Sorry to hear Dave, but happens and really if you are launching 5speed this can happens to anyone with 5speed,as i said before with 5speed its all about the luck and how you treating the box

Just have look in the For sale section and there are few of the 6 speed conversion kits ranging from £1500-£2000

£3k is too much for conversion matey

U forgot about the bumper issue mate

Gutted for you mate, your luck will turn. All of us 5speed with these sorts of power are on borrowed times mate.

I reckon budget 2k for box and a few hundred for fitting. If you have trouble mate I know a mechanic that can get them and fit them easily. Top guy, he's down my engine build at the moment.

Good luck mate

Sorry chap but what did you expect running 350 odd through a box designed to take 220 odd. Yes some hold out but most don't. How many miles had the original box run as in all fairness it was on borrowed time as it was with that power hike was more a question of when not if it went.

In my humble opinion it Will end up nearer the 3k mark but the time you fit a clutch suitable to handle the 321 or similar and lightened fly wheel boom 3k gone.

Best of luck getting it sorted but one word of advise doing it on the cheap is not always the best option. Do it right and right first time so you don't end up with paying extra to get it put right second time round.

Hah! You think YOU had trouble?

I had spent summer in France on my own, living frugally. I was on my way home with €200 of my original stake in my pocket when mine let go on the A28 just north of Abbeville.

Result: £700 bill to get it to Dover (Nope, no European get you home cover)

I also missed my EASY ferry to Hull, with cabin, (paid for) and meal, (paid for) and came via Dover, with a nice overnight journey in a hire car up England. By the time I got home I'd been up 36 hours.

THEN I'm faced with a huge bill for the repair.

Luckily, I had a great offer from an advertiser on here and have not looked back.

but that was NOT a good time..........

There you go ID, there's always someone worse off than yourself

Sorry to see your bad luck, DOB@APi must have mentioned the 'box may well give way with a possible 360bhp...?

oh yeah to be honest i knew it was without doubt gonna happen soon . ive always said to myself when it goes dont be suprised be prepared , which i was . in a way i just gotta look on the bright side really as when its done i have more or less have a new car , i dont see a point of buying an sti as the same could happen with that ?? at least with mine i know exactly whats been done and how its been looked after . i have 4 years before i look for a place of my own "due to dept" so then its no more playing and more living . so im gonna make the most of this oppurtunity .

what are your opinions of my planned future spec ??

vv planned mods vv
.md321 billet turbo
.3 port b/s
.fuel pressure reg
. upgrade clutch

vv on top of these already fitted vv
.550 fuel injectors
.full decat
.walbro
.iridium plugs
.roger clark induction
.sti top mount

what kind of power could this spec make ? what is the md321 like for lag and power delivery ? and would swapping to a front mount intercooler be a wise move ?

thanks

mate you have some bad luck, but if it was me id go for a six speed, the 5 may be cheaper but there is a very big chance you will be back at the same point as you are at now very soon running that power.
is there anything of the original bug left after all these problems.

Who said scooby ownership was expensive? Utter lies.
This year i've only had oil, filter, green panel filter, decat dp, decat centre, mud flaps, plugs, neutral pos switch,3 port, strut brace, brake fluid, dunc remap. Cam belt change and map tweak pencilled in.
Her indoors dont need to see the credit card bill me tinks

Looking at what you are planning then a six speed would be pretty much a certainty (or PPG etc)..

Do you do any motorway driving?

I went for the Jap 6 speed but it's a bit of a pain as it runs about 3600 RPM at 70 ish

Ha! your lucky, wait till you've spent 20k and still got a minger, and end up buying another scooby for 4k to recoupe your losses, then come tell me how life stinks!!!!

Ok so now you have to look out for another box, you could pick up another 5 speed for £500 ish and fit it yourself its not hard, and try and respect it a bit more and not enter into the traffic light derby.

yea i am saving for a 6 spd conversion , ive sold my dump valve and an air rifle so i have 50 quid already thats exactly it tubby no there wont be any of the original bug left really ! apart from suspension , which will be getting attention at some point thats why i want to keep it as long as i can . having a 6 spd strong clutch and 400+bhp would be fantastic as to be honest the vf34 didnt do it for me ! needs to be more aggressive i think for me to make me smile i think it would be a nice daily driver and a quick santa pod toy at same time which is what im after really

MD321T billet on non AVCS 2.0L will be little bit laggy,i would suggest MD321H Billet will be better suited yours, plus i would recommend FMIC too like Japspeed or Hybrid HDi

Plus you will need get your injectors re-flowed to the Mark@Lateral Performance to the bigger cc,which will be cheaper than new injectors

believe me mate im actually a pretty careful driver usually i wait til im moving and clutch is fully up before i give it beans , no point in having a powedrful scooby if you cant plant your foot now and then ?? accelaration is one of the best things about them after all . another 5 spd makes no sense as it WILL go again unless i drive it like a mondeo ? in which case id be better off with a mondeo ?
