Question What to do

First of hello to all.

Now time has come to get a newer model, I currently own a 98 STI in white, which is my 3rd scoob. for the 4th im after maybe a 02 /03 STI I have cash of 5k-ish + my sti "7k-ish maybe"?, seen a couple about but the ones that have cought my eye are in access of 200+ miles away "living in essex" ...

My questions are.... is the 2ltr blobeye STI engine as strong or stronger than the ej20 STI? "never ever had problems with any of my engines" mind you they get serviced with regular oil changes etc done every 5-10k

Also is there anything I should be aware of when buying a blob that i already dont know when buying a classic?

This maybe in the wrong thread? so very sry if it is.

Thankyou in advanced peops.

Spend the £5-7k on "doing up" your Sti.

Leave the newage lardy cars to lardy owners

Didn't newages come with semi closed deck blocks, or was this the 2.5L engines?

Thanks

In 2000, the Impreza line received a complete update. The chassis was stiffened so that it had 120% torsional stiffness increase. The WRX STi gained 17" x 7.5" alloy wheels over the previous 16" x 7" wheels. The 5 speed manual transmission (reputed to be one of the car's weakpoints) was changed to an STi engineered 6 speed manual transmission. The engine was retained from the Version 6 STi and still retains the semi-closed deck block and is still labeled as the EJ207

so yes they have the semi closed block. So i guess its just looking about for a low milage one with "hopfully" recent cam belt change, checking for knocking banging etc, all the usuall stuff and i should be good to go? nothing out the usuall to look out for on these?

Classics are open and closed aren't they, slightly odd using the word retained isn't it?

Thanks

Some classics pre 96 were CDB, after 96 they were all ODB. Newage STI has SCD.

With an estimated budget of 13k you will be able to pick one up it just depends on how long you are willing to wait as they don't come up often. There was one for sale claiming 400bhp but its not on pistonheads anymore and it may of been a 04 plate not 100% sure but was in your budget. There us a white Hawkeye jdm for sale at 11k but that is from a garage with a very poor rep on here but it may be worth a look, they might take yours as a trade in plus the cash you have.

If it were my choice I would be looking at one for sale on here, not in white but a steal at this price

More than you have but factory in the few k's worth of cash you will spend on the std blob sti this is well worth the extra out lay to begin with

OK cool, thought you meant 5k cash plus a 7k car lol

for 7k I think you will struggle to find a good later spec blob sti, they do come up but just depends how long you are willing to wait

I think Rob Day was interested in that car but was too late as the garage had sold it. Now they have it up for sale again

Do a search on the Internet about that garage. They have a very bad rep which is worth thinking about. I also believe they were caught clocking cars.
