Default Opinions Please IS THIS SAFE?

Ok guys i need opinions and suggestions of what you think and what to do ? Anyhow I recently bought a Spoiler off here for my classic . Seller sent me pics of it on his bootlid and i was happy with paint etc so bought and paypal'd for it .
Few days went by and i emailed to ask about it and he said he'd had trouble getting it off so

I asked

QUOTE " have the nuts came off ok then ? are the threads on the spoiler etc still ok and havnt broke free from the fibreglass"

i got the reply to say yes the spoiler is still all good and itd be with me in 2 working days . 5 working days later it arrived .

I open it up and am delighted at the paint and condition etc until i turn it over and see that all 4 original bolts had been wrung out of the fiberglass, and where the hole had been left from bolt head had been drilled out and a HUGE bolt screwed in the hole . 3 of these feel reasonably tight but one ripped straight out in my hand as they are basically only gripping the thickness of the threads of crumbly fibreglass. I would NOT be happy to put this on my car as im sure the wind force would just rip it straight off and it'd end up through someones windscreen. The other thing is that the Huge bolts dont even fit through the inner skin of the bootlid so id have to cut holes in the inner skin to let the heads in nevermind drilling out the holes to about half an inch.

I have spoke to the seller soon as it arrived and he suggested putting a thread up on here to see what to do . Ideally i want my money back and he can send a courier to recollect it. Although if anyone has any bright ideas etc then please say as i just want the easiest way to sort it.

many thanks for reading .

Spoiler once opened

Underneath with big holes

Huge bolts screwed into crumbly fibreglass just. no metal or nut on inside to hold it

inside my bootlid showing difference in original bolt and the huge bolts he sent. notice heads wont fit through inner skin.

top hole is where bolt just pulled out by hand nevermind on car at 80mph

This is approx what should have been fitted and was torn out ,

Hi, u could try and replace the bolts with the correct size and bond the spoiler to your boot lid, me personally I would send it back and get a refund or ask seller to refund you half the money back and try and bodge it!

Hi steve thanks for the reply , i cant think how i can replace the original ones tho as they are fitted from the inside when spoilers are being made , so the threads stick out and the head is inside the fiberglass and is nice n strong .

Either get you money back or get the seller to cover the cost of getting OE style bolts fitted to the spoiler, but personally I would be asking for a refund - its not as it was described

If it was me when I was working at a GRP place where I made things like this I would cut the holes biger but in layed steps to give something to bond new fibre glass to and set a new nut in the fresh lay up.

It does look like the last owner just pulled it off the boot lid so I would demand my money back to cover the cost of the repairs you will have to do.

mmmmm , not too sure mate. Might have to bond it on , which will be a mare if you ever want to take it off again. Either that or try to bond the proper threaded barrel into the holes , but not sure how secure or easy it would be to do !

Half the money refunded at least.

That is shocking. You have answered all your own questions in your thread regarding the saftey aspects of using the spoiler. Get him to pick it up n get ya money back. Not a fan of fibreglass replica spoliers for this very reason. Good luck with sorting it out.

i had a simlar problem with mine , i got the correct size bolts and bonded them in place with some epoxy resin and as for a measure of saftey i also bonded the spoiler to the boot with some silicone and touch wood all is fine,.
ask for a part refund to cover the repair costs ect,.

Agrew with above.

Also, why does it only have the 4 bolt holes to secure to bootlid, it should have some all the way across the middle also as it will just wobble with the side bolts and it wont sit flat in the middle unless its bolted down

I agree 100% mate There is no way i want to be fitting anything bodged to my car . I dont want to name anyone just now as im sure it will all be ok and he will do the right thing and he has had the decency to ring me back earlier so ive said i will put a thread up to get opinions . Its 100% clear tho that its not right and none of you would settle for it so i will ask for my money back and let him get it collected again. hopefully he will be cool with this as i really dont want to have the hassle of a paypal dispute to get my money back etc . thanks for the help everyone .

Jeez - you lot are quick to hang someone. It was the seller who suggested this thread. £85 is a cracking price for a spoiler and if it is fairly easy to fix with fibreglass resin then i would be asking the seller for a few £ back for the trouble and crack on

Could you use some toggle bolts to fit it instead?

There will be no hanging Thats why ive not named anyone , im just after the best way round this . £85 is not really a cracking price its just ok , they are only just over a ton new on ebay and someone above just got a genuine one for £105 from a trader on here . If it was as it should be then price i was happy with but as it is, its not worth jack**** to me. I just simply wanted a spoiler to bolt on , not to have to take it to a bodyshop etc to get bolts re fiberglassed in place . But thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions .

If you was to try and use it I'd recommend Sikaflex ! It's a polyurethane adhesive sealant, really fixes but with slight flexibility . And when you want to take it off you can get Sikaflex remover, I ve used it on my roof scoop and it's rock solid it's really good stuff you can get it from Screwfix and they keep it in stock

If it were me, I' ask for a partial refund.

Then I'd insert SIX of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-HOLLOW-...item3a5d308789

Building the holes round where they are too large with fibreglass resin, or an epoxy mastic.

You will then have a spoiler with SIX solid fixings.
