a friends my97 t2000 has recently suffered engine failure and we have a my99 from a car i broke abit since, obviously the inlet manifolds are different can i just change these over with the loom/sensors or is it a case of changing the heads as well.

these are two both complete inlets and from what i can see whilst the engine is still in the car they look the same fittings.

can anyone help please

i think they are a different engine mate ! i had this problem when my99 blew

Phase 1.5 to phase 2 engine, they have several differences, you are better off doing 1 of 2 things, getting another ph 1.5 engine (though this has its risks due to the fact you dont know its history) or get it rebuilt (which will outweigh the value of the car itself).

I know the history of the motor that's going in a fsh 90k unit not a Scrappy special what are the main differences in 1.5 and 2 motors I need to be aware of bear in mind both are complete and u can interchange anything really

No, thats one of the differences.
Also if you follow Mickey's advice and use the bottom end of the MY99 engine, I personally would advise replacing the oil pump and bearings minimum, its still a 90k engine you are putting back in so a refresh "may" save your mate some money in the long run.
I would also advise that the parts you are using from the failed engine are cleaned to perfection before being re assembled or you may see another failure not far down the line
