to map,or Not?
Hey,
driving my hawkeye STi today and damn,I love how it's so discreet in stock trim, stock exhaust etc,so quiete and subtl, not subtly in looks but...you know what I mean.
Anybody else foregone a re map and stayed 'STOCK'?
maybe because I'm just fresh back in an impreza and the grunt seems enough after my M3,no doubt wanting more will come at a later date but just enjoying the car for what it is and what it does in turely standard form not even PPP!
I'll be honest i'v got a heap of bits ready to bolt on,3' miltek turbo back, panel filter, fuel pump etc etc and i'v booked a remap with Duncan Graham but just wanted your thoughts....
anybody ever had enough and gone back to standard exhaust etc?

Hey Motion-Mx. Good to hear from another South Yorkshire Scooby nut! I'm in same situation as you mate. I have owned my Blob STI for 6 weeks now after owning a Z4 and i'm loving every minute of ownership. Well apart from all to regular visits to Shell! Standard for now but how long can i last? Would love a Full De-cat for extra burble though!

hey!
well the scoob is actually a little better on fuel than the M3,but I'v been driving a golf GT TDi for the last 6 months so fuel is killing me too! had a letter today from tesco tho who are opening a store on the end of my road, hopefully they will sell the tesco 99...
as soon as I got my impreza I was looking at exhausts etc and even bought one,but just pulled the car out this week to start daily driving it and loving the discreetness haha

I'd always have a car like an impreza remapped.
Even though they're mainly robot made they're never completely identical so why would you accept a generic map? Also is the generic map optimised for the fuel you're going to be using day to day. That's why even without any other mods I would choose to remap.

I'm kind of in this situation, recently bought a wrx ppp and it has plenty of grunt when you want it at around 260 bhp, and being a wagon it's very discreet which i love, the prodrive back box is quiet until you give it some beans, i also have a sti type r, although in bits atm, but the noise from the 3"milltek was far from discreet along with the overall look of the car.
I'm going to mod it over the summer, but think i shall be doing a balancing act between power and noise as the drone of the milltek on normal day to day and motorways was a real pain.
Don't get me wrong i love the burble but wish i had a switch to turn it off when i'm not in the mood for it, although it may be less noise in a newage.
I have vf34 and going front mount so i'll have some turbo whine and induction noise to contend with, but i quite like that

Ben - you dont need to fit a loud exhaust to get good gains on your car. Even with the std exhaust you are probably looking at 320bhp so can stick with the look/sound/discreet nature but have a wolf under the right pedal. Remaps dont have to be on seriously modified cars - i map lots of std ones too for really good gains in driveability, torque, power and economy
