Default Brand New Alloys

I bought a set of Brand New Alloys with the intention of painting them a different colour as I'm not a fan of the gold they came in ,

Must I use primer being that they're brand new !?
Apologies if I'm missing something just thought since they're obviously in perfect condition I could get away without it , "I've painted a couple of sets of rims before and found the ones I painted without primer seemed to have a much nicer finish than this which I did prime ..

Apologies if this is a silly question just I'm confusled

Your best to key the surface with a scotch pad, and paint on if there new, using primer will just make you more work as you will have to flat it off with 800 grit then spray with chosen colour, be sure to use plenty of laquar but in thin coats this will reduce orange peel affect and will give you a nice deep shine with good protection.

Hope this helps wiggy1
