Ive just fitted a fordge Ej257 engine to my 1997 sti, the engine and turbo should see 400bhp ish (TD05 20g) the thing is ive got a TY52VBCAA gearbox. My mate has just had his car mapped at scooby clinic and he said they wont take this gearbox over 350 F/lbs of torque. Is this true and if so what is the strongest 5 speed gearbox for a classic, dont really want to do a 6 speed conversion

strongest standard box is a ty754vn2aa box from the last classic/bugeye but you're still on borrowed time over 350 bhp. Torque is the killer on a 5 speed so if you've spent all that £ on the engine your better off going for the bulletproof 6 speed and not a chocolate 5 speed.
