Modified car scene?
Where's the car scene on the streets these days, about 7 years ago before i could drive there use to be car meets/cruises that were big, all sorts of modified cars, body kits, big loud cans, people just chilling, looking at cars and having a good time. Where's it all gone.
Trends move on, but there should be some kind of meet/cruises going on, a place to gather and just chill and looks at cars.
Places like Hemel and Bracknell have a few cars about, but that's all i ever see.
When i'm driving i rarely see another modified car, i feel lonely out there man. I really enjoy just cruising behind another modified car, sharing that interest with a random person.
Thanks

The police killed the cruise scene about 8 years ago, shutting down big gatherings, websites etc. This had a huge effect on the industry so magazines like Max Power etc died soon after.
Nearly everyone turned to performance rather than styling which is why the tuning/trackday/power scene are where people are now.
The other factor is the costs for 1st time motorists. The days of buying a 1.1 Corsa and being able to afford to mod the crap out of it are long gone. Most 18-20 year olds pay 2k insurance on any basic car, about 1/3 of what they earn.
Sad times, but organised events like Fast Show, Japfest etc are still around and usually where the true enthusiasts go rather than a maccys carpark.

lads your so right, where have they gone??
im old skool, so we had the big london event called " chelsea cruise "
but it was locked down buy the old bill coz of people ripping down the bridge straight,
then driffting around the round about at the end.
ive seen many a time cars going round, and ending up skimming the crowds watching in the front line.
then it was a total kill off, when they put the event into the park.
where it was park up, and show of your ride in one spot!!!
not like it use to be.

Type 'Ashby Folville' into Google. There are always some modified cars there (some wonderful, some 'Barried'), although that's not the only reason for the gathering.
It's not worth going before April or after September though, as it's too dark too early to make it worthwhile.

You can still get it in some shape of form but like you say things have changed, you just gotta travel abit for it these days. Pistonheads do sunday service. Essex scoobies annual tunnel run, In Reading we have a monthly Jap Meet 70-100 cars . I think it still exists just not like in the old days.

Most local clubs do something or another, usually by a local meet each month, and an AGM, during these meets there are discussions about up and coming events for spectators and competitors. I havent been to one for a long time, but the last time I went there was plenty up and coming events.
Find a local club and get joined, all the more better if you have a mate to join too. It doesnt need to be Subaru specific, a bit of variety helps keep people interested.

I haven't been in years but the one in MK seems to be more standard cars now... There was a brilliant copper who wanted the cruise to happen. He wanted all the teenage lads to be in one spot with their cars rather then doing reefa outside a shop...
Then a Traffic cop came alone with a big no no and handed everyone a slip saying first warning. Now they have random on the spot MOT checks and alsorts.
Shame as I miss cossies doing a few burn outs

I remember the big cruises in Lakeside, Essex where all the carparks in the retail park were full of cars (Cossies, RS's, 5 Turbo's etc.) really got me in to cars.
Police soon shut it down though
Even Southend isn't like it used to be.

I don't think this "rat" look scene helps either, I can under stand the idea of a steet sleeper; a battered mk5 Escort rust/warts and all with a cossie lump for a example but turning up in an old Polo covered in stupid stickers, scraping along the floor, whilst being driven by **** with 3 inch ear tunnels tattooed up to his arsehole with skateboards in the boot.

I do miss the old Cruise scene. I dont mind the corsa's, Saxo's etc etc as its was fun to see what could be done with these cars and some were really outstanding.
The problem I had in the end was d!cks driving so ******* close and fast to my car which nearly got hit a couple of times. It just really put me off in the end.

I live in Northamptonshire and I've tried searching online for local car meets and couldn't find any. Where's the one you go to?
I used to go to one in Milton Keynes years ago but not sure if it's still on these days.

I still see a few groups of young un's in their cars arund Bristol & think ah i remember those days lol
but no where near like it used to be! dump valves, flamer kits, crazy sound systems cars with more spoilers than doors or cylinders lol
there are a few clubs that meet around the area but would have a hard time convincing the mrs to sit in a car park for a few horus chatting about cars lol
I find myslef looking at some of the "chavved up" motors around & can appreciate the 1's that are done well even though not to my tatste anymore saying that was never 1 for spoilers & body kits although i did always like wide kits! cant be at a big fat ***!
