Default 6 speed

Hi evryone,
I'm trying to find a six speed complete kit for my 96 STI. They all seem to be stupid money has anyone managed to get a bargain on one? Any advice on getting one at a good price or does anyone know of one going cheap anywhere. Thanks.

LOL,I don't expect to get one that cheap, but all the ones Iv seen are a bit out of my price range. Just wondering what others have paid for theirs & if anyone has managed to get a good deal.

You used to be able to pick them up for £1500 but more people want more power so there is more demand for them so the price will rise, Saw a full Hawk set up on here for £2250, Now that is a bargain.

I paid £1600 delivered for:

UK 6 Speed Non DCCD Box
Linkage
Prop
Cradle
Gear ****

Picked up a UK R160 diff for £32

Thats all I need to convert my classic, as the clutch, flywheel and starter from the 5 speed swap across.

Supply and demand. You might pay less, but it will be a box that needs a £600 refurb as its high mileage/abused.

Q3 last year yes...now No

I paid £1475 for everything in order to fit to a 1995 STi

£1800 is about the mark atm but you may still have to find rear drive shafts/hubs/diff to make it a classic conversion.

Bug boxes go cheaper than blobs given they can be hit and miss for gear notching. Mine is a MY03/04 box so was a pretty good bargain tbh.

In addition, June last year I bought this for £1900 and it already had a Prodrive MY02 STi 6 Speed...

Bargains to be had in 2011 but this year hasn't really started yet. I'd wait for a glut in the market as there is a distinct lack of private sale 6 speeds atm. Plenty of commercial breakers but not much else.

53,after reading your reply it's got me thinking maybe I should look for a complete car, either a classic that's been converted or a blown up or crashed car to take the box from & break for spares. Which models would I need to look for & is this a good idea,or should I just take the one Iv been offered for £1600.

You'll be very lucky to find a classic or any car that has a six speed fitted for less than 3k, some people are in the right place at the right time as 53 was when he got his low mileage classic

Got a uk set up here from a 2003 uk sti

- 6 speed box
- Selector
- Cradle
- prop shaft
- Rear r160 3.54 diff

£1700 plus £50 delivery. We also have the same set up but from a jap v7 sti with a r160 3.9 rear diff these are a little more costly but they are better box's and the rear diffs are a lot harder to get hold of so because of this the price is £1850 plus delivery
PM ME FOR MORE DETALIS IF YOU ARE INTERESTED

from a reputable professional Subaru breakers and if you have any problems you can call us and we will sort it out asap so you have a come back at least, we may be a bit dearer than the people/business selling parts in the private section but we have a business to run and vat to pay etc unfortunately,

also it is illegal to break cars on your drive way or in a garage that is not a register end of life treatment facility (ELV) which has cost us over £20,000 to register as an elv so we can do this job correctly in line with the environment agency rules and regulation which is something we had to do considering the fines are well in excess of £20000 can be up to £100,000 in some cases,
