Default What steering wheel to go for ??

Hi all I want to change my steering wheel in my bug and I'm thinking of a flat bottom one, mainly for more leg room but I just fancy a change anyway .
I don't want to spend a fortune as I ve recently spent loads on my Eibach springs, any recommendations and pics to show for ideas will be appreciated 😉

If you have the Bug WRX then the STi one is a big improvement as it's smaller ....... and you get to keep an airbag

Make sure you get one with an airbag otherwise it could be an MOT fail with the new legislation coming.

No not all b if you have 1 as standard then you must keep 1 to pass the mot.

Has your car got a cat?

I'd recommend an OMP Deep Dish, I had one in my Type R and it felt really good, it was nice having the wheel closer, I felt more in control of the car.

In terms of air bags ect, just find an Scooby friendly station

My car did come with a decat exhaust but I have put a cat back on as I didn't want any hassles with the MOT, the previous owner kept a cat exhaust as a spare to put on for the MOT and then would take it back off again afterwards but I couldnt be arsed with that 😉

Ive got an OMP deep dish suede wheel in my scoob, love it, a bit close but definitely feels better when cornering. Takes a while to get used to stalks being further away though lol

Just had a look at them on EBay and they do look ok, are they easy to fit ? and is the original steering wheel easy to get off ?
Cheers mate

Mine had an aftermarket wheel in when I bought it so can't comment on how difficult to change really, but I would think there will be two bolts at the back of the wheel holding airbag/horn on, then once thats off theres a main nut in centre of wheel.

But don't forget you will need to buy a steering wheel boss aswell to suit the wheel/car..

Cant see it taking you any more than an hour or two

Ummm them 2 wheels are plastic mate. Would look good I suppose but wouldn't be quality like i would personally prefer.

Changing the cat is a ball ache and something you can't do yourself. However changing the steering wheel is easy and quick to do i have full pictured instructions if you need bud. Also you will new a boss for it to fit.

I have just been through the exact same thing as your asking about haha so im glad i saw this thread :-) .

You like my Gotham wheel or not?

Chers Jamie....

Ref cat I bought a mint condition second hand standard Subaru down pipe for a WRX off EBay and cost me £40 to have it fitted and take off the decat, has since sailed through the MOT.
Ref Gotham steering wheel I do like the design and style but I'm not too keen on the wording actually being seen on it, but it's only my opinion 😉
