Default What should I purchase next ? (hmmmmm)

Well the Blobeye STI has gone to a good home, and as I have owned quite a few Subaru's now Im on the hunt for something a little special for a change or something that can be revived

Ive been looking at Blobeye STI's both UK and JDM, inc Widetrack. Also a few Hawkeye's but they are pushing my budget if I want to start modifying unless they have partially or fully spec'd out

What can you recommended to me baring in mind the racing season is due to begin

Budget wise it all depends on what the car is.

Rob

PS- I have only ever owned newage cars (6 in total) but im all ears

It is a silly question, but since you ask

I have always been into performance cars, and when my Mrs was pregnant some time ago it was time to revise out current car(s)

So it went like this with many other cars in between.
  1. Bugeye Cypriot WRX, Paid 8.5K ran for 12mths and then sold to raise funds for new house, Sold for 8k
  2. Bugeye Wagon bought for 3k, used for ferry materials for house renovation, sold when it had done it job (not on here) 2.5k
  3. UK300 bought as a project for 4K, completed project inc new engine, gearbox blahblah (330bhp) and sold it to a memeber on here (R1 Ricky I think he was called) for 7K ish
  4. Bugeye STI UK bought again with blown engine, turned this into a 430bhp road car for track, It needed more money than I was prepared to give it, so Broke it on here.
  5. Bugeye STI JDM, bought as it landed on my lap local and at the reasonable price, broke it on here cheaply to everyone.
  6. Blobeye STI UK, bought for a friend whom no longer wants it, but it was mint and cheap so I sold this on too.
Now looking for something else

Cheers Chris,

Im a little sceptical about buying a older car, plus now again the said car is used for the occasional school run and work journey. We use the family bus for pretty much everything so I could get away with a full fledged track car, but driving it once a month on track would annoy me no end, or at least I think it might.

Reading some of the threads on here, particular the project threads Im starting to get the urge to do a track car project, but now is not the time with family commitments (time and money).

Im awaiting some feedback from a local guy about a retired Subaru Rally track car, funds permitting It might be worth a look.

I think ideally Im looking at a well sorted Type R, or a good spec newage, or even a wide track newage Dccd that I can work on.

Any newage engine blown motor would be nice at the right price, then I can go 2.1 or 2.5 funds permitting

If I break another one I would happily pay the subscription for the 1 month its ebing broken and sold . however as im only breaking my own "and only car at the time" and offering the parts cheaply I see no harm. especially as im paying full subscription and contributing within reason every way I can on top

I think I need to test drive a well sorted classic for myself. Ive only ever sat in the passanger seat, but I have sat in the passanger seat of my own 400+bhp newage in the past and It felt quicker than it does when your driving yourself, the unknown whats going to happen feeling no doubt.

Wide track jdm gets my vote either sti or spec c, I went sti as I wanted the extras for a daily runner but if not main car a spec c may suit better, but you need to drive one to make up your own mind as they are different beasts and lack the burble that a lot of people can't do without, but once you get used to the different noise don't think you would regret it,

And it is
But the widetrack JDM STI is pretty much in the same bracket, totally different car to a UK model, much more fun, much better engineered
Forget about a 400bhp classic, when you put all the heavy bits on it needs to be in the same bracket and be reliable, it will weigh the same as a newage

Think you may be shocked though I would have to shove a big turbo and lose all of 300 rpm instead of 1000 that you would, mine would still pull from as low as 1900rpm, yours.... ill be at the finish line before you get going

The 04 Blobeye is nothing like the revised Blobeye, and yes I get bored easy

The trouble with the 04 I just sold it that it was Mint, too mint for me and deserved to go to someone whom will preserve it with the low miles and keep it relatively standard to hold its worth for years to come.

400bhp on a budget post coming soon

The latter is very much likely to happen. I have left it with a Subaru mechanic to give it a full inspection to weigh up whether to run/track or break.

Mechanically its mint, engine and box is very tight which is why I bought it, the interiror is also mint. The only let down from what I have seen is the bodywork needs a little tlc, one minor ding in the front wing (will remove) and the odd mark here and there. There is also signs that it has some body work at the front end at some point, but nothing serious enough to put me off buying it.

Hopefully going to collect it this afternoon from my mates garage once its had a good vetting, give it a good damn wash and take it from there really. If I can get a good few track days out of it before breaking i'll be happy

How's the "project" getting on Arf ?

I heard you the first time

I thought the mods had fixed the double post problem ?

The "mint" blobeye was mint when bought, and I simply middle manned the sale to a mate. No money was in this for me really once you take into consideration it needed Tax, full service, Valet etc.

Anyway back on track, I need to ring Keith Micheals to get mi Insurance Changed again for the revised blobie

Nice, you been looking at the white bug on 22B

Im not sure when the time comes if it would be best to sell the whole gearbox shabang as a whole (box, diff, drive, prop, linkage, hubs, brakes).

See how things pan out nearer the time

Rob
