Default Going from bug to classic wrx?

Hi everyone,

I've started considering the idea of getting a 1999/2000 classic wrx as my next scooby.

Currently drive an 02 wrx and I wondered if there were many differences between the models or if its mostly the look?
When I first started looking I had hoped to get a classic but I couldn't find one in good enough condition so went with a bug.
I do love the bug but sort of regret skipping the classic!

It would be good to hear from other owners who have gone from a bug to a classic.

Thanks in advance

Ive got a classic but my next car will be a bug or blob. I've driven a newage and it feels a more solid car, you can tell the difference in build quality etc.

The classic vs newage argument has been done a million times on here, you just have to go for what feels right.

Ok thanks for the opinions

Maybe I will be best looking at the blob when the time comes.

I've said it before but will say it again..

Weekend fun or even just a second car then the classic wins hands down.

Only car and used daily then newage is the way buddy.

never go older, the blob is the next car you should be looking at. There are plenty of good ones for a good price.

Cheers guys.

Yeah my bug has been my daily drive for 2 and half years now. Definitely a great car. I've never actually driven a classic so I couldn't compare them myself yet.

Depends what you aming for, as Matty said , weekend car for ocasional blasts classic sti is the one to go. Everyday new age sti. I still wondering why people get wrxs and spend a fortune to get them to the stage were standart sti would be. And you need to chuck in a fair bit of your hard earned to get a new age wrx to the sti spec ... I have my classic 4 years now, and drive a blob sti sometimes, times has come for me to change, but driven both, in a proper maner , im gonna go for another classic. BTW new age probably is better/faster car in the real world in the average drivers hands , but its all about feel you get in a classic, diff vine, seat position, all other noises, and as most will disagree on a tarmac track 5 speed gearing fits better to me. But hey, everyones to their own.

Classic Find a nice one and the stuff about not being an everyday car is bollox tbh.

I'd drive mine to the end of the earth and still get out feeling fresh. Newages are way less comfortable IMHO. Weekend thrash or weekday drive they're perfect.

I have both and I'd go classic everytime, just wait for the right one.

Don't expect to save any money though

Classic every time raw and road feeling is fantastic noise ,rattles and throw yourself into the back of the seat is awesome but

Look out for rust on rear arches and remember these cars are 11years+ old
Need to be looked after

I think my next scooby probably wouldn't be a daily car so maybe a classic sti might be the first thing I look at.

I couldn't afford the insurance and running costs of the sti when I bought mine but if it wasn't going to be a daily driver that wouldn't matter as much.

Would be nice to try all the models in time but if I wait too long for a classic there wont be that many left I guess.

Agree with this.

I've been seriously thinking about buying another classic. I already have a winter 4x4 that I intend to keep for the winter and just use the classic for 6 months of the year.

BUT.

I do wonder how much extra chore it will be looking after 2 cars. I'd spend £3K on a very good UK classic or spend £5K on a bug STI. Could go to £7K for an 05 blob for DCCD but to be honest I wonder if I'll ever actually think "Jeez, glad I have DCCD!"

Personally I really like the look for bug STIs.
