Hi i am a new owner i have a classic impreza 2.0 AWD auto
i am getting 200 miles to a full tank of fuel.....is that about right?

Is it a turbo? if not then that sounds a bit weird as I drive an sti classic and get about 240 out of a full tank with some spirited driving involved

is it a turbo mate if so that is about rigth i get about 220 out of a tank in mine thats a mixture in driving styles tho

its a non turbo mate... the only mods on her are a kn filter induction kit
and a full stainless exhaust...apart from that fully standard

dont drive it like i stole it.....fuel costs to much!! lol

i thought it was a little poor...i know auto cars are worse than manual
she starts and runs 100% have cleaned and re oiled the kn filter not looked at the plugs yet (have got a new set to fit)

no history which is a down side but she was cheap lol

A standard air filter will help the mpg

would have to try and find an orig filter box etc and since most of them have been changed for a non standard one might be easy to find lol

one other thing the fuel gauge takes forever to move up when you fill it

you dont think it could be a faulty gauge?

i drive a blob auto...and get roughly 250-280 per tank....auto;s aint the best for mpg fella..enjoy for what it is

That might be something to do with it. You should fill a jerry can up next time you fill your car up, reset you odometer and just drive it until it runs out of petrol, then you should see how many miles you're really getting.

i have filled it now 3 times till the pump stops on the auto cut off point..reset the odo meter and the reserve light comes on at 200 miles...best i have had was 205 miles

think i will do the test you have said with the can of fuel and see what figure i get

most of the miles are to and from work which is a clear run every day( no traffic and no traffic lights etc)

Why on earth would you starve the engine of fuel and drag any crap from the bottom of the tank when you could fill the tank, reset the odo and then when you need more fuel - top it up and do some simple maths to work out your fuel comsumption?????

Don't be bloody stupid

All you do to work out your mpg accurately is...

1. Brim your tank
2. Drive it till you wanna refill
3. Brim tank again
4. Note miles done between fill ups and litres of fuel required for second fill up
5. Simple calculation,
(Miles / litres) x 4.546
6. There's your mpg

No need for bloody jerry cans

In comparison the Sport has a 50l tank while turbos have 60l tanks so in that sense the figures should be quite similar.

I have a 2.0l sport manual, and around town i achieve around 25mpg which goes up to 30mpg on decent journeys, mine are often short and i do drive briskly.

200miles for a full tank seems a tad low,

Usually I put 40£ in that gets 200miles

In my sport I can get 90 miles to £10 so a full tank doing 200 miles is definatly off and im running a performance filter and a exhaust system.

If yours is a pre facelift with a maf I would give it a damn good clean and also change the lambda sensor along with a good service.

I get about 130 miles on £30-£40 in my Turbo classic, (just over 300bhp) ..

Are you sure about that figure? how much does a gallon of fuel cost where you fill up.
My tdci 6 speed diesel mondeo will struggle to get that and my turbo scoobs will struggle with half that

it all depends on how and where you drive it. If its short journeys where the car is barely warmed up then expect it to run rich and low mpg. If you're doing steady driving daily (20-30 mile trips) then you should be seeing better mpg.

I've got a 300bhp classic and brimmed mine xmas eve. I've driven 230 miles (180 mile trip on xmas day) and the needle is just below 1/4 but that usually means i've got about 20 litres left. I'm filling up again tomorrow so I'm hoping to see close to 30 mpg.

Thats about right on a standard impreza and its an auto. My sport that I had did about the same. But my Blob is running 300bhp and that is hardly getting 15mpg.

I do drive mainly motorway miles on short journeys and town driving it does tend to drink a fair bit more but on a whole its very eco for me

well i've just done a 400 mile xmas weekend with mixed results in my 300bhp classic.

Filled up on v-power xmas day and drove 200 miles to my dads, M69, M40, A34, M3, M27 etc steady drive all the way there plus a bit of running around locally. Filled up on my way home (the needle was on nearly empty) with Tesco's Momentum and the total was 242 miles on 47 litres = 23 mpg

On the way home i've done 185 miles, same roads home but a slight detour, bit more spirited driving, plus I got stuck on the m40 for 20 mins @ 10mph yet its still showing half a tank and I would say theres at least 30 litres in there (when i'm showing 1/4 I have nearly half a tank) so the Tesco's stuff "may" be more economical.

Only other logical explanation is that I had a blowing up pipe replaced 2 days before setting off and this was affecting the fuelling as the o2 sensor was compensating for the blow. The ecu may have learned/adjusted after the 1st trip so might be running more efficiently. I'll be keeping an eye on what I get out of this tank of Momentum thats for sure

£10 gets you about a gallon and a half so you'd have to be getting 60mpg to do that. Think you're being a tad optimistic there chap

At £1.34 a litre you're getting 1.6 gallons, or there abouts.
