Angry Head gasket snd what to do next

Hi I have a hawkeye wrx 2007 just had the car into scoobyclinic 4wks ago for a cambelt and de cat downpipe only on the way home it was overboosting which brought the engine management light on .they said the turbo needed porting and then a remap so I had to clear the bank and get it done .only yesterday the car started to overheat then drop back down I went out to check once things had cooled down since its been in to scoobyclinic there was some muck as I thought in the coolant tank .upon inspecting the car theres no oil in it and it looks like the oil has gone into the coolant so I think its the dreaded head head gasket .now in two minds what to do I really dont want to part with the car as I always wanted a one and eventually got a new one in 2007 .if I got the gasket done and some forged pistons and head studs do u think the car would be ok as I will have to get a loan to pay it and that would have to be if anything else went wrong as the clutch is slipping so will need doing aswell .if anyone can help or knows a good honest mechanic in the east yorkshire area it would be great thanks

You cant go wrong with Clinic mate top job they will do for you mate. I would always choose some one thta knows Subarus not any mechanic, i'm sure someone will pop along to advise of another garage that can do the job for you.

+1 had mine done at the Clinic. It's rarely just the head gaskets that have gone. If you've lost all your oil expect to find a few more bits in there that will want changing

Mine ended up with Crank, bearings, rods, gaskets, water pump etc. You won't really know until its all stripped down

If the engines out and your getting a loan to pay i wouldd do Mahle forged pistons, Mahle big ends, ACL main bearing and 11mm head studs.

It all depends on what final power you are going for IMO. My build is good for 450, but i'll never go there with it as i prefer handling and braking, so just want useable power. The Clinic will advise you more and go through the option with you if you take it there

WRC engines have 300 BHP and you will almost not have the ability to blow one up on the road. Steve was making the point that after the build the engine would almost not fail @ 300BHP level, thats the way I read it.

Can i play devils advocate...

Knowing the boost control would be all over the place after a decat, why fit the pipe without a remap... You would hope you would get advised against it...

You live in a fantastic area for Subaru specialists
1)You have Steven Darley - SD Motorsport - (Overall winner of TOTB 2011, course record holder at Harewood Hill) I couldn't even imagine him ripping someone off. half an hour from Goole
2) G-R Performance - Gazza has done the majority of the recent work on my car, and he will treat it as if it is his own. He is only happy when you are happy and also highly recommended - 45mins from Goole - could probably source you an engine no problems.
3) Scoobyclinic - You already know how good they are, they have built a great reputation on quality, honest work.

Re:Paul - He clearly says it was remapped in his first post

If I was you, I would source a newage 2.0ltr STI engine and drop it in, it can take more power than your gearbox can, relatively cheap & much more reliable.
I think there is one for sale at the moment for £700 ish

Yeah thats's pretty much it. I may take it up to around 350 at some point, but there will be more handling mods first

ignore Phil, he doesn't know what he's talking about

Only AFTER it had over boosted and thrown the CEL on, thats how i read it anyway...

And if it had been remapped, why was it overboosting at all...

True, apologies, I misread. Maybe he was advised when decatting but chose not to or maybe a mistake by the clinic

I'm deffo not trying to point any fingers as in the 4 weeks from overboost to noticing the head gasket failure anything could have happened

We did advise the customer to get his car mapped when fitting the decat but he was going for a larger turbo in the next few weeks so was going to get the map sorted then.

Seems very odd to fit the de-cat on its own then.

Not really the cat back was already there so the decat was fitted as requested by the customer then he was coming back as soon as funds were available for the map.

But I thought newage scoobies in particular have problems with over-boosting when decatted?

Some do some don't but we did advise this but it wasn't going to be an issue as the customer was coming back soon anyway.
