Not that much difference in running costs.

If you buy a none turbo you won't get admiring glances from the women and children and all the blokes that are envious of the turbo will sneer and laugh at you instead of being afraid to look at you and pretending not to notice you.

And you will always think i should have got a turbo.

oh and no burble....Enough said!!!!!!!!

If you want a fast fun car get the turbo. If you want a cheaper car which is dull by comparison then get the non-turbo.

It all depends what you want to do with it. I have a non turbo and i think its great, never let me down and now im modding it to my tastes. Im not out on the roads to race around and get points on my licence. It looks and sounds like a turbo, you ask Chris at CDF Racing, he thought mine was a turbo.

It easily cruises on the motorway at 70-80 mph and when needed to will get there very quickly. The plus side for me was that the insurance was alot cheaper than a turbo, the downside is that when you want to buy parts it seems abit harder as the turbo models are more common.

Personal choice at the end of the day.

Ive had a 1994 1.8gl Wagon that was done up to look like an sti, it looked stunning and handled amazing but sounded like a heap of **** as it only had about 5lb ft of torque, wouldn't pull you out of bed and i can swear it was dearer to run than my STI.

Sold it on with nearly 160k miles. Defo go turbo mate, non turbo Subaru's are too slow, i struggled to get away from Diesel vans and 1.4 corsa's pmsl

Mods where, full decat exhaust, induction kit (A.K.A MAF killer), lightweight pullies and flywheel. The springs where also cut to lower the car, it came like that when i got it, best handling car ive ever been in, so low but as it was still soft it loved bumpy roads.

All i though about when i drove the car was i wish this was a turbo, i deliberately backed out of races as i new i would get left standing and as it looked like a turbo i didnt want people thinking turbo's are slow.

Only plus side on driving a slow car for a couple of years when i finally baught an Sti that had been remapped i couldnt believe how quick it was, to actually get pushed into the seat and have noise was unusual lol

If you can afford to run a Turbo then it really is a no brainer - if you can't then don't.
If your decision is running cost based then a Sport ain't a lot cheaper to run and your cash would be better spent else where

and sports are **** slow

At the end of the day it all comes down to money.

Not one of you sport owners chose a non turbo because you really wanted one, you bought one for financial reasons. If money was no object you would have a turbo charged car regardless of what you may say to us.
Yes a non turbo will do it's job, it's a 4x4 so will also do its job well in the winter months. It's also possible to make one look like a turbo car if you desired, it's also possible to make it sound better. It will never sound like my car but to joe bloggs it will sound like a turbo.

I owned a 2.0GX for a few months, it wasn't my cup of tea or my wife's so it had to go. If however you are an Impreza fan with non turbo funds then maybe you will like it.
If however you can afford turbo then that's the car for you in my opinion.

The non turbo is not really that much cheaper to run, you may save a few quid on insurance if your under 30 but they are not fantastic on fuel maybe 5 mpg more, which in the greater scheme of things is very little, if you need a 4x4 then fair enough, but i believe the op said he's not a young un..

Turbo you know it makes sense.............

No I'm not young [62] wish I was !but yes saw my ideal car this morning on Teignmouth seafront. An 04 plate WRX wagon in straight red thats what I want. I notice that some cars have what I would call a Recaro seat - I dont want this but would prefer the standard seat with seperate headrest but which is standard seat for the WRX?
