Has anybody fitted front fogs to a classic STI ?
I've had a look behind the covers tonight and found some spare wires/connectors so guess they are the unused fog plugs. But what about inside the cabin, switch wise. Got a couple of blanks on the speedo cowling so will there be the plugs hidden in there somewhere ?

Not an STI but a WRX, but fitted fogs as I prefer the look, can`t stand the covers.

The upper plug is the indicator,a nd the lower is the fogs.

The switch goes (on my prefacelift) under the instrument cluster on the right hand side of the steering cowl.

 

Yep found those plugs behind the fog cover. We're the plugs there behind the blank on the speedo cowel ?

 

Matty, if you REALLY weant to do this, why not go for driving lights? Fogs are an UTTER waste of time and money, tbh.....

The plugs for the switch ought to be there, but you may also have to fit a relay, after finding out where it goes, and there may not be a fuse......

 

Basically I only seem to get to drive my car on Sunday afternoons and with the way the weather is its always bloody dark. We all know how utterly crap classic headlights are so was hoping that a pair of front fogs would brighten up the road a touch. Obviously not expecting miracles but surely with some decent bulbs in they would help.

 

Better bulbs or HIDs.

 

Bulbs make very little difference to classic headlights. Currently got bright white 100W bulbs in and they are far from great. It's the design of the headlight.
HID's, yes that's an option but didn't really want to go to that expense considering how little I use the car.
I've bought some front fogs now so I'll just have to see how I go.

 

It all depends on the MAKE of the headlight bulbs.
Speak to Harvey Smith on here for his current thinking on headlight bulbs for the classic, he has tested loads and the main thrust of his findings is that NOT all bulbs are the same, some cheaper, and even some dearer higher wattage bulbs perform significantly worse than others, and also, even worse than so-called uprated bulbs.

One word of advice:
Avoid HID H4 kits like the plague.
