Default Bugeye Headlight Washer

As above, did they ever exist - I'm asking because it is something that is specifically being targetted in MOTs from next year, and whilst I've seen them on other cars I've never seen headlight washers fitted to a bugeye incl JDM models that had HID lights fitted as standard.

i think to meet uk mot standards if your car has hids they need to be self levelling and have washers.

They have to be levelling, not necessarily self-levelling. The washers are a requirement for an MOT but I've never seen them on a bug so I'm wondering whether there's a factory fit, if not I'll have to engineer something

Assuming you have HIDs it should, depends upon how thorough your tester is

Same problem with blobs as well, my jdm has no washers I was thinking of trying to make an adaptor to fit h7 halogen bulbs for mot then just swap them after the base to centre of arc and filament measures the same so should give an acceptable focus, just need to bypass ballast to supply 12v to bulb for mot but not looked into it properly yet as mot not till june

Shouldn't matter as it is a jdm and not a Uk car. I'm pretty sure it's something to do with type approval. Stand to be corrected though

i dont know if this is fact but i asked the mot tester earlier as my car was in the garage and imported cars will have to meet existing uk mot standards.
current jdm imports need fitting with a rear foglight to pass the test. washers and levelling is becoming part of the mot so i assume if you have hids fitted you also need the levelling and washers.

but maybe it doesnt apply to older cars or imports, im sure someone with more knowledge would know this, possibly litchfields or someone who imports cars as a business.

I would imagine they are exempt. Plus with a full decat, brakes that only work when hot and cut slicks that head lamp washers are the least of our worries lol

My issue is that I have retro-fitted JDM lights to a UK car so I wouldn't get through any type approval, but I couldn't go back from HIDs given how much more effective they are

I'm not worried about now as I know a couple, but what happens if -

a. I move
b. I get stopped by the coppers or VOSA for a roadside check

These are fairly simple things to sort

I know a friendly mot tester for decat but won't fit one as don't want to be tied to one garage and tester and don't want the hassle if stopped, I doubt jdms will be exempt as I think the hid's would have been removed for type approval then refitted afterwards, same as rear fog light I think one would have been fitted for type approval then removed and wired into cluster afterwards. Would be good to hear advice from someone who imports these cars, I really don't want to fit uk lights to mine. Headlamp washers can be easily fitted the ones from a range rover sport look like they might work but the bumper will need drilling but I have looked into the auto level and can't find an easy way to retrofit that,

Any jet will do for the lights from what I can work out as long as you can adjust the jet. I'm going to use the space in the washer bottle for the rear washer pump and fit a second pump and see if I can't use the standard wiring including a switch from a facelift classic.

Like I said, the leveler doesn't need to be an auto-leveler, you just need to be able to adjust the level when you load the car up

Just had a quick read up and the guide says "all after Market hid headlamps must be fitted with a levelling and washing system". Jdm imports are standard fit so should be exempt.

So would JDM Sti headlights be classed as aftermarket even though they are genuine Subaru items?

I always thought aftermarket was classed as something never made by the car manufacturer.

Unless they need to be removed for type approval because VOSA required the leveling and washing systems to be in place

Fitted to a UK car yes as they are not a factory fitted item.
