I've been looking around for GOOD insurance quotes on modded jap import cars (sti 5 type R/type RA) and they're all coming out pricey. Anyone got any advice on who to talk too apart from schofields? I'd also like to be able to track the car now and again but first priority is getting the price down. We're talking suspension/brakes/breathing (airbox/bov/exhaust) and maybe an ecu mod and change of wheels on for example a '99 Sti V type R.

Dubbs, not sure if this is any help but Elephant.co.uk were good for me. £1187 including no claim protection for:

Sti6 (Jap import)
Tracker and cat 1 alarm
Postcode CM16 (outskirts of London)
Scoobysport exhaust
Kept on drive
Annual milage 6000
3 points on my license (sp50) since Nov-01
5 years no claims bonus

I used to be with Privilege until Feb but they were wanting an increase from £1200 to £1600, hence I started looking around. I found that the annual mileage and the length of time having had points on my lense made a difference.

Here's a bunch of people to try ...

I found Liverpool Victoria to be very competitive if you raise the accidental damage excess to £500.

I got a £1000 quote on an STI4R with only 3yrs no claims (was 16yrs!)due to an oustanding claim against someone.

My current car is thereore in Trader next week so I can go shopping with cash.

Hi there. Got my insurance company to insure my Sport for around 2500 pounds third party. Thought this was a bargain of the century as you know sports sure ain't cheap to insure'. They're a true enthusiasts car. Anyway will e-mail you the name of the company I deal with. Don't want too many 'poachers' to get wind of it. Get my drift????
hope this helps mate Pops

Chris Knott were very good to me - very low prem on a UK with PPP+ - they insured as a P1 and the quote came up sub £1000 (an no I'm not a clean licensed 50 yr old with a 100 yrs no claims - 3pts, 33, and introductory discount following no claims in company car).

Their number is quoted in one of the posts above.

As always, ring round - took me two days but it beat the £3000plus quote I started with !!!

Just got three points on it caused by my own stupidity-racing against a M3 Evolution. Matched him up to 80 on an A road and copper gunned us both. That 3 points cost me gravely-around 1500 quid!!! Anyway thats life but at least I still got my Sport
