Impreza P1
Hi Guys,
Am looking to buy a P1. What's people's opinions of them on here? I have no doubt it's a great car and I would enjoy owning one - but my only worry is that I keep hearing (I think) people saying the engines are very high maintenance and need re-building every so often - how true is this and would this be a major issue?
Thanks, Llyr

Hi mate there is actually a P1 forum, there is also the impreza type r,which is also a 2 door, your going to have to lots of research and drive a few before you buy, now is a good time to buy one as there are some good deals to be had.
Both great cars, but research both is the best advice i can give, do a search on here and you will find all you need to make an informed decision

I've kinda got my heart set on a P1!
Was looking at a Focus RS mk1 and just thought what the hell am I doing, for around the same money I could get a P1!
There's one for sale local to me at the moment. I'm not one to travel far to look at a car! I know I'll like it, it's a Subaru! Drive a 53 plate WRX and had the classic shape before that.
Was just worried about how much looking after they needed...

There are plenty of over-priced ones about. To be fair its mainly dealers, but anyone who thinks that a P1 is still worth £9k+ is deluded.
Speaking of which, I noticed a couple of 22b on pistonheads for £35k and £37k Can only think its on the back of Sierra RS500s asking that much.

Oh and lots of other goodies you dont get on a P1 like climate control, electric folding mirrors, decent diffs, dccd, quick rack steering, 2 pot rear brakes (the brakes still suck though, worth upgrading), limited number plate, rear tinted glass etc.

I'd be looking for a recently imported Type R or RA Limited edition model. Higher spec., stronger mechanicals and if you find a good one it will hold it's value even better than any P1 .
Here's an example i picked up last year (you won't find a P1 in this kind of condition):-
^^ The brown stuff is waxoyl, otherwise it's as it left the factory 11 years ago
Depending on what budget you have, something like this would be a good place to start looking

Best of luck.

Yeah that v4 STI RA is nice the description is all wrong though 250kg weight saving try about 20-30kg on an RA, and some of that added back on a limited and there is no forged internal engine, just forged STI pistons (and its not hand built, it probably had a choice of going into any number of STI's before it ended up in that RA )
OP, you also have to watch out for the bullsh*t in some of the adverts, their owners go a little ott sometimes
