Angry Check Engine: Simtek...very dim

Version 4 JDM STI...
Right.......I have lighter fluid and a match in my hand.

my engine light is on VERY VERY dim, when I first turn ignition on or put into test mode it illuminates as it should (bright) and stays bright, but when I start the car it goes REALLY REALLY dim..
(video wont pick it up though because it's that dim but sat in the car you can spot it)
http://youtu.be/wpP6_b9mnNk
...thought it maybe reflection/refraction off another bulb in the cluster - so tried with all lights off, handbrake off and belt in...
IT IS LIGHTLY DIMMED TRUST ME LOL
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C51j5j9-0lA
Now because it has a simtek installed I get all the illuminations working in both test & diagnostic modes, I don't have the old ECU as it blew when it was imported...hence the simtek.

any ideas people???

I thought this, ran out with the multimeter and it's got 0.001 resistance to the chassis so not that :-( cheers though...

You weren't very clear.

You should have just asked, "Why the hell is my check engine light lit with the engine running?"

In answer to that question, I have no idea. Speak to your mapper since it's not the OE ecu.

Apologies...

it's not 'ON' as you'd expect it to....because when i turn the ignition on it lights bright (as you'd expect a warning light to be) but then when you turn the engine over, and the other lights go out....it stays lit...albeit very dim, and only started doing this tonight.
unfortunatly Andy Forrest lives some 300mile away from me but he wasn't the original mapper so won't be able to read the ECU (so i'm lead to believe?) it was RCM that installed & mapped it some 3 years ago for the previous owner and they're even further away and both will want, what i'd expect around £80 to read the codes?
I'm planning on getting it mapped with AndyF just after christmas but until then I need my car......stuck between a very hard place and a very big rock lol

edit: Just noticed your from Newcastle.... www.nesf.co.uk :-)

Well it ain't telling you to shift up, and it's not a det warning, which are the only two functions of the management light under Simtek as far as I am aware. Does the car run ok, do you have any gauges etc to indicate a problem ? Best to ring or PM a simtek guru like JGM to ask if this has been reported before on simtek and if the solid check light from cold start has any meaning interms of the ECU and code/issues

Holy crap Batman Didn't know it could be used as that until you've just mentioned and i've googled the shat out of that haha
I've got volt/oil temp & boost gauges, these are all fine....really regretting not getting oil pressure now, but my last two cars both had battery problems so decided to go with volts to spot it early
But thanks for the input - greatly appreciated

That's brilliant how it can be used as a shift light (assume we can choose the RPM for it to kick in at the map?)
when I have daylight tomorrow i'm going to double check the resistance to the chassis again and go buy a new bulb...as a precaution - the thing that's getting me is it's only started tonight........ HANG ON......................................
.......Tonight is the first night i've drove in the absolute pitch black in my ownership....i wonder if it's been on the whole time

I asked RCM back on 12th of August for a copy of the installation/remap invoice for my records and to find out if the second map that's installed is safe to run or not, they've said their archives are 25 miles away and i need to bare with them to get over there and get a copy - i've offered to pay but Olly has said there's no need to pay, just i've got to bare with them until they get over there

Can I just add - I'm not knocking other mappers out there, it's just three mates have always had their cars mapped by AndyF and are more than happy him and his results, so i'm just being safe and a sheep :-D

Regards
Aaron

Simon JGM fitted and mapped the syvecs and he would have set the rev limit to turn the shift light on i assume.

Few screws to remove the cluster, relatively easy to do.
