Talking

Had an E36 M3 which I thought was quick until i got my hands on a Version 5 Wrx Sti Type R from Ralliart.

Mein Gott! The performance difference is unreal. Had a lotus elise up my *** and blew him away. They are nippy buggers too.

The power thump in the back as you change form gear to gear is glorious.

You cannot beat a Jap import for sheer bruteforce. I am probably running sub 4 secs 0-60 after an engine re-map and using shell optimax. Quicker than a Diablo between 50-70 mph.

When the lights hit green, see u later.

RIP Bmw - what a waste of time!

Welcome to Scoobynet !
BMW's are a little over rated and are certainly bland to look at (exception M3).

Glad you have caught the Scooby bug !

Enjoy your car, it sounds lightening fast

Very different cars I'd. I've driven both, and the M3 is a great GT car, the STI a great twisty road car, but not a great cruiser.

Wouldn't say I hate either, but how about a car with the grip of the impreza and the fantastic cruising ability of the M3...

BMWs seem to be the main car that try it on with me.
In the last two days a 540 a 525d! and a Z3-M. I thought the Z3 would be a quicker in a straight line but I stayed with it and let him go when it got silly, which I am supprised about ( I bet he is telling all his mates how he blew away a scoob little knowing that I backed off ;-) ) What is it with Beamer drivers.

However I have owned several BMWs and I think they are great cars. I drove an E30 M3 recently and thought it was a lovely drive, a proper car. Not that quick but a nice RWD stuff. E36 M3 not so keen on but still a good motor. - Respect

Can't beat a scoob though. Love em

Question

Why do you hate BMW's? im a car enthusiast and own a scoob with a few tweeks
for back road ability yes the scoob!
but for straight line speed and top end grunt the M3 wins without a doubt!
My bro owned a E36 M3 and M3 evo with the speed restrictor rmmoved and 175 mph wss capable on the autobahn with immense stability!

but i enjoy my scoob for back roasd thrashing as i do 30000k a year on A/B roads.
But for high speed thrash it woulld have to bre M3!
And in the right hands on track iim suree a M3 would be very competetive! ask BIRDY from what ie read at Bedford!

butt i love my scoob!

Also,

for what an M3 costs new, you could have your Scoob, and something else to run around in as well, (and a couple of holidays) with the change.

BMW are great cars, girlfriend has my old 5 series and i still love driving it.
they are ultra reliable and you cant beat the build quality of a BMW,good job they dont build a AWD version of the M3!!!

scoob is a completley different car to drive(more fun!!!)

you cant hate a car that looks as good as a M3.

bet everyone thinks you have gone down market buying a subaru after a BMW,thats the way people think that know bu66er all about cars

we know better!!!

yup p/ex by E36 m3 for the wrx at ralliart.

Basially the m3 was 7 years old and was getting hit by bills.

Anything that goes wrong on an m3 has a juicy price tag.

Thought f*** it and went to Ralliart in Birmingham.

Sti Type R V5 is the one of quickest Subaru production cars available with its electronic transmission. Forget the P1 or 22B.

My brother has an Evo 6 GSR. Not that quick due to how heavy it is. Type R is lightweight (stripped) so blistering acceleration in each gear. His acceleration is similar to an M3 with no mad rushes of power.

Have been head-to-head in Sheffield and mine will beat his up to 70 then his sheer grunt takes over to 120 (my limiter kicked in anyway)

There were some nice 'extremes' there though!

without getting into a 'mines bigger than yours ' argument, i would have to disagree with you.
ive owned an sti5 myself, and my ex has an sti5 with link, induction kit etc etc.
the sti is definately NOT quicker about on a par with an evo(the sti with link that is )
evo handling is superior, 'feels' stronger, is better built, and infinately more tunable. with a few relatively simple/ inexpensive mods, it is way better than an sti.
sorry, but sti5's are NOT what theyre cracked up to be.theyre good, but just not THAT good.

if you believe that they are, answer this. just how many evo owners have switched over to scoobys?
the mlr is full of ex scooby owners

Spud Gun..have u got/had a version 5 4dr or a 2dr type r.

Type r is stripped-to-the-bone so will naturally be quicker than normal Version 5.

Evo6 GSR very heavy (0-60 in 5.3 as opposed to 4.3 in type R). RSX (lightweight) is quicker.

At end of day boils down to how good a driver u are (gear changes). Nothing in it really.

A Good 'my d**** bigger than you're d***' debate!

it was a 4 door. as far as i am aware, the difference with the type r and 4 door is, yep one has two doors and a trick diff, and one is a 4 door...which many regard to be the better handling of the two on british roads.
the 'stripped out' version, again as far as i am aware, is an RA. and yes, i have driven one of them too. none of them quicker than an evo with a straight through magnex
at the end of the day, the scooby is always at a disadvantage, because it takes a lot of dough for relatively little gain from a scooby, but its easier (and more reliable) to gain more oomph with an evo.

i can only talk from personal experience, i'm sure there are many here more experienced with these things than i

still, each to their own

You have obviously not driven a proper Sti if u think an evo 5/6 is far quicker. The handling is definitely not better..about the same. AYC means nothing. Felt very top-heavy when i drove bro's evo6.

Agreed, the build is far beefier/stronger and perhaps even better.

More tunable...perhaps.

However in standard form the 'type r' (not you're normal V5) is quicker in a 0-60 sprint.

The Type R (not the 4dr Version 5 u are on about) is just as good if not better than an evo (bar the extreme/zero fighter) performance wise.

Ra is an even more lightweight version.

In STANDARD form...forget your magnex exhausts or other mods..the evo6 against type r will lose up to 70 but win up to 155 (or watever).

Feel like a kid arguing about sweets. grrrr

MY CAR IS BETTER THAN YOURS PROVES NOTHING! IF YOU LIKE YOUR CAR GREAT BUT DONT COME ON HERE TEACHING US HOW TO SUCK EGGS WHEN WE SAW THE SUBARU LIGHT WHEN YOU WAS STILL DRIVING ABOUT IN THE OUTSIDE LANE WITH YOUR FOG LIGHTS SWITCHED ON.
FECKIN NEWBIES I HATE THEM GRR!

All these views depend on who is doing the review and one mans
great is another mans crap.

However certain facts like pucker magazine 0-60 tests etc are a more reliable guide.

I get a bit surprised when some of you guys get upset/shirty/stressed/immature by these debates.

Take it easy and if you don't want to debate then don't...
u don't have to read a particular thread do u?

My 2 cents : Sti V5 IS one of the best ever Scoobs and IS a better ownership prospect for those who do a fair few miles each year (instaead of weekend drivers) and those who do a fair bit of motorway mileage. Plus most would agree that the Scooby is better looking. EVO is sharper/stronger/better at corners etc but also rawer and harder/expensive to maintain.

One thing people forget is how agricultural a SCooby is, it doesn't have half the electronic support an Evo or Skyline has, this makes it arguably more reliable/easier to maintain.

As for you spudgun (MLR regular).

Watever u drove (prob a Uk spec) u were obviously not up to the job against an evo.

Just realised that on this forum get slagged off if not tow the party line.

An old Scandanavian hermit once told me -
Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought of as a fool than to open your mouth and extinguish all doubt

Would you take it lightly if ppl all talked to you about Beemers as if you never owned one ??

I would not give a f****** s***!

A debate rather than some people taking it too personally and blowing a blood vessel.

Ancient CHinese Quote: 'Scooby regulars are not superior beings that should be idolised.'

Anyone who knows anything about Subarus would tell you Type R is serious hardware. Stating a fact since most ppl on this thread say otherwise.

Anyway spudGun an evo wind-up merchant.
