Default How to tell which heads and cams i have?

As the title, i have a 97 v3 type r with the coil packs in the centre on the inlet manifold, but some people call this the v4 so just wondered how to definatley tell which heads / cams are in there.

Cheers.

I get the question regards the heads and the answer there is to remove the rocker covers and have a look.

But lost on why someone would call a v3 a v4

v3 & v4 are very similiar in that both have coil in middle of manifold, 3plug ECU, etc.........

if its a type-R the easiest way to tell a 3 from a 4 is by the rear brakes as the v3 had large 290mm SOLID rear discs and sliding calipers whilst the v4 was upgraded to the more common Subaru 2pots and 290mm VENTED rears

as for your heads they should use the "under-bucket" shim arrangement, approx the size of a 5p piece......

Ok i have the under bucket shims so does that mean it's the v3 heads with the wild cams?

I hope not, fortunatly i don't think the people that did my original rebuild are smart enough to do that

Thanks for the reply, seems it was a difficult question with not so many experts willing to comment, or come up with another way of knowing, so much for all these specialist tuners knowing their stuff
