Default 2.5 Block conversion

Read somewhere that you can convert a 2.5 block from open to closed deck blocks. has anybody had this done and if so how reliable is it, whats the drivability like, what power can you make, where do you get it done and how much?

Wat is your engine and turbo plans and planned power output?

hi sorry i didnt know whether it would make a difference or not. currently i drive a 2005 sti with 2.5 bottom end, standard heads, hyperflow monster fmic, md321h, 650cc injectors k&n caik with autronics. i'd like a reliable 500bhp maybe even 600 at a push. i see a few people on here making very impressive power on the ej22 blocks

Anything above 450-475bhp just go 2.1 or 2.3 to avoid headache

i have seen a cosworth 2.6 and 2.7 stroker version, think its based on the usdm but id be interested to see what kinda power they are running on that block. I know if you plan massive power then the 2.35 is the way

IMHO you can't polish a poo LOL if you want big power then it's £1.2k for an EJ22t and take it from there

Drops a liner in is a very good description of his work.and then when you run more than 1psi of boost or go over 3000rpm the liner he has just dropped in will just drop a little bit further down the block.

A cdb 2.5 can run decent power, if you use a decent mapper and a good ecu, a friends did this a couple of years back when most people could only dream of 600bhp in a road car. However I still agree with Shaun for consistent and reliable big power the EJ22T based 2.35 is the way to go.

2.5 cdb rotated GT35/42

Have heard pretty much the same issue with Chy's builds off more than one person

If it's the case of liner movement shouldn't it be down to him to sort it at his expense, no?

What was the cause of your liner moving?

I wouldn't let Chy wash my car never mind do anything mechanical on it.

Don't bother with a linered motor of any sort.

Either pin the 2.5 like I have (600bhp) or go the whole hog and get a 2.35.

I've been a real fan of the 2.5 but having witnessed first hand that what a difference replacing a fully built and linered 2.5 with a proper 2.35 then I can honestly say if you can afford it and want serious power then its the way to go. Be warned though its expensive.

If you're just after a fast road car with circa 500bhp then I'd advocate the pinned 2.5 everytime. They are simply awesome to drive with power and torque everywhere you need it.

theres no replacement for displacement

you can have the gallerys filled in with metal if you want as another possible option
