Probably is seeing as a see about 1 person a month who has been shot by some little **** hiding in the bushes with these rifles.
Pellets are about 5mm across and travel at a surprisingly high speed.

Need a change in the law on air rifles - from 14 to 18 years of age along with a licence, these things can kill in the wrong hands.
sorry to hear about you car!

Pellets tend to leave a small, smooth dent on metal - usually removes the paint as well. They tend to flatten on impact with a hard surface so have a long around where you think it happened and you may find the culprit.

a 5mm pelet is a .22 calibre rifle..... if somone had shot your car with a .22 you would have holes, not dents.
a .177 gun would leave dents, a .22 is lethal.

a .22 rifle would puncture your door but a .22 air rifle would not, we used ones over the legal 12ft/lbs on scrap car doors with a variety of ammo in the past and apart from a dent and a nasty richochet no holes....
We even tried them on headlights and its really hard just to shatter the glass, still kids with these should be taught properly that its a weapon not a toy.

Surely it depends on how far away it was fired from as to wether it makes a hole
Bad news getting fired at anyhow
I had some shytes chuck plums at me last summer as I drove past splatted all over the passenger window (lucky it was shut)

Good chance these are 6mm plastic pellets (ball type) fired from plastic replica Airsoft pistols. Any kid can get one of these pistols from about £20 upwards - harmless (but painful) unless you get it in the eye in which case you can be blinded ! Will make a nice dent in thin Subaru bodywork depending on range and how powerful the pistol is. Not a lot you can do about it, unless you catch the ******* in the act,

In a similar vein, there is an artical in my local paper this week about cars on the A12 in Romford having golf ***** thrown at them by brainless ******* from behind bushes at the side of the road. Not surprisingly there is a golf course close to the road. A number of cars were dented and an emergency vehicle finished up with a smashed windscreen and the ball in the back of the cab. Needless to say the little scumbags disappeared!
I actually work with "dissafected" 14-16 yr olds and I could tell a few tales!
