Default How do i get 300+ bhp from my03 wrx?

Hello all!

As above I've just bought a 03 wrx + ppp.. I want it to have between 300-350 ish bhp. What do I need for this?

Will the gear box, clutch need uprating?

Is my tmic okay? Or will I need fmic, sti tmic?

All help appriciated

Jamie

Sti top mount, fuel pump, injectors, turbo (take your pick but I went for a VF34), decat (up-pipe, down-pipe etc) and decent exhaust but 2.5" should be fine, decent panel filter then map. Oh, and run on nothin but 99 RON. Lots of tuners will offer a package deal - see Powerstation's website for example. That should see around 320 ish, depending on the rolling road you use. Clutch should cope, although its lifespan will be dictated by how you put the power down. Box should be fine, but again, rough treatment will endanger it. Next you'll need to think about brakes, suspension and set up. Then it's the larger wheels, if you go for a big brake kit etc etc etc. Slippery slope toward being skint.

You need to uprate the turbo, injecters, exhaust, fuel pump, and also the wrx tmic to either a sti tmic or fmic as both will be suitable at that power level. The turbo will be the deciding factor on how much power you gain and i personally would pay extra and get a new turbo unit instead of secondhand crap that fails. A decent td0516g or 18g from the likes of harvey smith or Andy Forrest would get the power levels you are after and would be a better drive than a VF series turbo that everyone use.

Hoping for similar to Matt, 3" turboback Cobra system, panel filter, perrin intake pipe, Dynapex 255lph pump fitted, VF24 and classic uppipe waiting to go on.
I am thinking about longevity though and maybe limit it at 300bhp with standard injectors??

I can't insure an sti b0dski I'm only 20 had to settle with the wrx. Was at silverstone sunday seen some nice imprezas, gave me a nudge to spending more moneyyy on my car!

I think it's worth doing it in stages, I have an MY05 WRX I went for handling 1st and then my 1st stage upgrade for power:

18" Inovite Redlines
3" Cat back
Cold air induction (mounted through inner wing, cone sits behind removed fog light)
BC Coilovers
Up & down decat
Ecutek remap
And as stated above 99RON only

Big jump in power for me as I didn't have the PPP to start with, when tested against my cousin's and my mates standard STIs mine has more grunt and longer legs.

I applied my mods in the above order bit by bit so that I could see what worked.

Reading a lot of threads on here and as advised by my mechanic, you don't need an FMIC under 400bhp so I'd save your money on that.

Brakes, Bigger turbo STI TMIC & injectors are next:

Had to give it a rest for a while otherwise it'll cost me my marriage too

ALL MODS MUST BE DECLARED

The insurance will be the same as an STi after you've finished. If you don't tell the insurance company then it's fraud and you're driving around without insurance.

Please don't be another uninsured driver.

The WRX intercooler is fine at 320bhp. If you go for an STI intercooler, you'll need the bonnet undertray too, otherwise there will be very little benefit, if any
STI pink injectors for safe running
For 320 bhp, a VF 35 is fine and far cheaper than the slightly quicker spooling VF34.
A 2.5 or 3" decat exhaust, decatted up pipe, decent panel filter and a Walbro or Bosch 255 litre an hour fuel pump, followed by a remap from a reputable outfit should see an easy 300.
My 2005 WRX PPP made 312.1 bhp with the above mods running the standard WRX intercooler.
An STI intercooler and undertray would have yielded maybe another 10 bhp, according to the RR operator, however I want to keep the car discreet, so will be keeping it as it is.
I did brakes and suspension first.
The standard brake setup is at its absolute limit with PPP.
decent synthetic fluid, braided hoses together grooved discs and harder pads should sort brakes for the road.
22 or 24mm ARB, together with some slightly lowered springs and fast road geometry setup should sort the understeer and improve the whole way in which the car drives.
You can get the majority of the parts from the For sale section on here and save a few £££. Best of luck with it. Bob
