Default Top or front?

Need advice I have a gc8 with an sti 4 engine, yellow injectors, walbro fuel pump.
Just had her mapped and got 300bhp and
Nearly as much torque.
I have bought an sti8 top mount but have been told it's alot of hassle fitting for only and extra 20bhp, and a front mount would be much better with a poss return of 40-50bhp.
Now my question is will there be a loss of boost and alot of lagg with the front mount?
I'm getting mixed reviews so far.

You won't loose boost unless it is leaking. Yes you will get a bit more Lag but you get used to it, my FMIC has been on 9 years. The good thing is you will get a dennser air charge due to the better cooling, I have seen on here abot the top mounts becoming in-effective at high speed due to airflow over the bonnet.

20bhp from a top mount and 50 from a front mount? how are you getting bhp from intercoolers?

Bollocks are they pretty useless over certain speeds..... unless you are referring to crazy speeds.

If you use an undertray, MY03> STI TMIC and a newage bonnet scoop they work very well, at least up to 400bhp (with an efficient set-up).

@ shaun also i agree that a bigger top mount does cope with 400bhp there is a few sti v6,s with standard top mount running 400bhp happily but there still not that good at speed, its a fact the shape of the classic is crap

snake1906,
Since a Classic is more drag co-efficient than a Newage, I would only assume the airflow over the bonnet of a Classic is actually superior to that of the Newage.

The Newage scoop is more than just about the size (the Hawkeye scoops are actually smaller in height, but that does not make it any less efficient). The insert of the scoop deflects air to both the top and bottom of the TMIC, which is vital for efficiency. The Classic scoop does not do this, unless it's modded.

You also need to keep the undertray on the car to make the whole air pressure "thing" work most efficiently.

the classic scoop is crap and when your at levels where you would be worrying about these things your prob using rcm or what ever headers which means you wouldnt have the undertay on unless you,ve butchered it or forced it on in which case you,l need a fire exstinguisher at the ready lol im unknowledgable about the newage i kepp myself to the classics

lol as you are m8 your car is set up to run as it is so leave it if your tdo5 is genuine then it should be making more power than 300,or did you mapper say that he would map it to there untill you change the intercooler?

rcak7,
Newage TMIC *can* work well, assuming that you have the undertray still fitted and a Newage bonnet vent.

However.... the *easier" option (fitment wise) would be to go FMIC.

The dilemma you're in is since you have a STI TMIC already, it's your choice to make what makes better financial sense imo (at your power level).

Your turbo efficiency can also have a bearing on which intercooler to use, but in essence, if your blowing hot air (pushing the turbo too hard) you should really be looking at turbo choice as well, regardless of what intercooler you end up with.

Yeh it's genuine but I had a slight leak on header so it was mapped safely at 1bar till I fixed leak.

aha now i understand well get that fixed make sure all your mods are there and get the map tweaked leave the top mount where it is theres no need to change,if you make 340 with your tweak and the sti top mount changing to a front mount will not give you 390 not sure who your mapper is or if id be letting him near my car

If your going for more power in the future, probably best to think about the FMIC seriously then.
