My Gearbox went bang..... :-(
After having my car on road for 3 days.. The gearbox went out with a damn good bang.. Sounded like the prop snapped and was hitting the floor.. Pullled over and the prop is still up and not hanging.. Tried driving off and it sounded horrible... Happy days..... Well the V Dub meet at ace cafe was good..

Nah mate, me old bug WRX, 4 yrs ago. Was only on 301bhp!
Am finding the 360bhp of the T20 plenty to have a bit of fun, so I doubt I'll kill the 6spd (fingers crossed!). It is a bit tight on start up but works well when warmed up.

The TY754 is deemed to be the stronger of the standard boxes (the Ty752 being the weaker), the alternatives are rebuild to the same standard (600ish), 6 speed (about 2500 with the rear diff), sc/ppg built box, your talking 5.5k there and the ppg definately isnt as strong as a 6 speed.

You can keep replacing 5 speeds but it soon ads up! I'm building a reasonable power classic so I opted to sell my still working 5 speed and buy a 6 speed rather than repeatedly breaking 5 speeds and after a grand or so throwing in the towel and buying a 6 speed

If you are planning on going on over 350bhp a 6 speed is inevitable.

Gear ratios are obviously dependant on which variant you go for (gear ratios here if you are interested; http://spda-online.ca/modules/tinyco...ite/tc_28.html ), its the shift pattern I didn't like; they are closer together so there is a greater chance of mis-shifting...particularly when pressing on. Having said that Simon (JGM), has said that since he fitted a Prodrive gear linkage his opinion of six speed boxes has changed. Not driven a six speed with one so can't comment...perhaps worth dropping him a PM to find out from the horses mouth
All of the above just my opinion, so do try one and make your own mind up...its just a lot of dollar to spend and find out its not to your liking

Saw your post about mis-shifting. Yeah, I occasionally miss 3rd when pressing on - just assumed it was my crap driving!

My daily driver has a six speed and I've no issues with that...scoob six speed just seems to have less room and a much tighter shift pattern. Horses for courses, so back to my suggestion to the OP have a proper drive before putting hand in pocket
