Welcome to the forum.

Do you have a model preference classic pre 2001 or new age after 2001 bugeye, blobeye etc?

From an insurance perspective how old are you as that might also help with model choice.

I was in your position a few weeks ago, picked up my first scoob (2003 Blobeye WRX with 66k for £4380) on Thursday night, managed to get a decent quote through Sky insurance.

I learnt that the key thing to look out for is a solid and well looked after engine and turbo, test drove a car on 85k ish, bodywork was extremely good but the gearbox didn't feel great and there were little noises when driving. The one I've bought just had a turbo service and previous service receipts show it has been well looked after, absolutely no abnormal noises when driving and the gearbox feels much better.

I'd definitely recommend test driving a few of them to get a feel for the cars, you won't be disappointed though, really happy with mine and got a few things planned.

Try and get one with full service history and check the dates and stamps in the book, servicing can be expensive. Vitally important make sure the cambelt has been changed every 5y 50k miles.

get a good classic but be advised they are more of a drivers cars and more ruff and ready on the old back, you could get your self a nice late version 4 97-200 wrx which is still the same power as the sti, 280ps 276 hp and maybe for that money find a nice sti

as above mention drive a few, feel the gear box makes sure there are no whines and crunching of the gear and no slapping of the pistions from cold and warm for that matter or big knocking

Personally I really like the classic shape over the rest of the scoobs. I am on my 3rd classic all pre-face lifts but 2 with face lift front ends. face lift front look much better tbh but with the classic cars you got to remember there that much older to start with so finding a decent enough one might be a tall order. Although I swapped my first 2 and bought 3rd off of Ebay, I haven't really had a dog yet (that's me touching wood) lol

I paid £1,060 for my wagon back in June and I had to get the knock sensor changed on it so far. I passed a green T reg saloon (not far from my house) for sale at £1,600

But tbh whatever anyone tells you, you really need to make up your own mind on it. As colour plays a very big part in the decision. White looks gorgeous (most of the time) and black looks pretty good also

Good luck in finding your dream scoob and hope all is great with it

There are specialists, but tbh they came out pretty crap for me and I am 40 years old!
I eventually went through Adrian Flux and got a quote for £371. I had a few extras and I paid £481. I have an xs of £1050 but one of my extras was if I paid £40 for the year and I had to make a claim, the first £1000 would be paid for me via this extra cover, so I would only have to pay £50 xs

I thought it was worth it
