Default Birthday in 17 days; performance driving day advice

My better half has agreed to treat me to performance driving session day (something I have always wanted to do) so I would like to know which ones you guys would recommend.

Ideally I would like to use my own car and be mentored for the day by a specialists on a track learning the true handling capabilities and performance characteristics of the car. I'm also considering a day experiencing other sports cars too, so a little unsure yet what to do

Any experiences and recomendations would be greatly appreciated.

My Mrs is ACE

Okay well I have driven an Aston Martin DB9 and an Aston Martin V8 Vantage both were great cars and both made an amazing sound but the V8 was the better car for the track, BUT my favorite car that I have driven on track was the Nissan GTR. I thought this car was absolutely amazing, if only I had 50k lying around lol

Oh yeah, If I had 50k to spend on a car the GTR would be my first choice! Where did you experience all this?

Morpheus, I was looking at doing something very simular for my birthday in about 20 days lol

there is a performance driving school type thing that uses elvington, they had all difference courses from performance car driving to drifting, but I cannot for the life of me remember the name!!!!

I did a driving experience 3 years ago, it was also at elvington. I had 8 laps in a 911 turbo, and then 8 laps in a blob sti. This led me to buy my classic.

I will try find the name of the driving school mate.

How much track time did you get? Price seems reasonable if you get the whole day to play.

PM Trout and ask him who did his one-on-one training at Teeside.

I didnt use that driving school, my Mrs got me one through these red letter days. I believe the company that did mine also ran at Teesside too.

I have not used that driving school before but I was considering it for my birthday

I drove the Aston Martins at Bruntingthorpe proving grounds (basically a disused airfield) which was fun as there was plenty of straights to open them up

And I drove the GTR at Prestwold hall in Leicester which was more of a purpose built track but could have done with a few more laps for the money my mrs paid (but isn't this always the case)

seriously though the GTR was unbelievable no turbo lag and loads of power, I literally passed everything else on track! And please don't think I'm trying to claim I'm the stig as I'm not the GTR is just that good

In my exsperience the ferrari day at silverstone was very good, but dont bother with ones that are on an airfield and say you will get to drive loads of different cars as the circuits tend to be quite small, I did one and struggled to get 100mph out of a ferrari !!

But the best one would be a trackday in your scoob!!

Default Yep...

I did the Don Palmer day somewhere in the midlands (cannee remember its too late).

It was his 'taking your car to the limit and beyond' course - has a posh name I cannee remember.

Cost the wifey £400 squid for the day. Cost me another £400 as me tyres got completely ripped...

All in all £800 - quite fun - shared Don with some Russian millionares son who had a M3.

In hindsight I can think of better ways to spend that sort of money.
