Was it just a power run you got or was it a mapping session?

I would have thought it would be better with a fan on the intercooler to keep things cool and colder airflow through it, but I may be wrong!

How's the turbo hunt going?

Doug

the tdo4 max at 285-290bhp,

i would have been looking at 280 ish but remember some rolling roads give different readings ,it may appear down here but on another could be spot on,

and with the amount of good work that duncan does i would just ask him what he thinks,

Duncan is prity good with estimating power when mapping!

Nice, holiday = turbo. You will be going on a lot of holidays If that's how it works in your house! Once you catch the modding bug! Haha

Have you uprated the brakes or suspension on your car? I couldn't remember seeing them in your mods list!

Doug

I spoke to Duncan he agrees the lack of airflow to the tmic would account for a loss of about 10bhp.

It's a bit of a trade of on these cars to get both top end power and torque from the TD04 as the 2.5L flows a lot more air than the older 2.0L. You generally either have to trade off low end torque to allow the turbo to produce cool enough airflow at the top end to be at 270-280bhp, or run the turbo hard low down and suffer at the top end.

My method is always to run the turbo harder lower down whilst it's well within it's efficiency range and sacrifice 10-20bhp top end, doing this on a decatted car nets you the best part of 390lb/ft of torque from low down and a very flat power curve peaking at approx 260bhp. This method nets a much bigger increase in torque than bhp with minimal trade-off and generally works out as a much faster car.

I've not yet seen a hawkeye WRX genuinely produce more than 390lb/ft, which is mammoth when you drive it!

Just my two penneth,

Graham

And start saving for a replacement gearbox. Two people I know have chased 400 ft.lb.s and lost a gear in the fun that followed.

dunx

P.S. Whilst that's being done, uprate the clutch too !

I am happy with what I have but I would be even happier with around 330bhp/350lbs

330bhp was when my clutch started slipping, unsure of torque as it was road mapped! But think it was around that figure, so be wary of that and factor it in! Also good brakes!

What's the difference between "engine power" and "corrected power"? Which one should be quoted?

From what I gather corrected is the result you would get if all the conditions of the run wet perfect ie temps and pressures.... I could be wrong....

Corrected power should be used as that takes into acct the atmospheric conditions and other factors that all dynos have built in to work out what they think are real figures.

They all vary though and a lack of a fan feeding the tmic will def have cost the car power with the lack of charge cooling.

Good compromise in torque and retaining enough for top end power to make it fell like it isnt falling flat on its face after the torque disappears
