Stupid non specialist car garages selling Imprezas
I have spoken to 4 car garages in the Leeds & Manchester area all of which are advertising blob sti's who know absolutely NOTHING about the car they are "trying" to sell.
The first question I asked every time was: "You have advertised the car to have FSH, is this fully documented service history with invoices and stamped service book and has the cambelt been changed?"
answers;
"Errrr not sure, think we have a few stamps, the rest the owner did"
"Yes but we have lost the book, but if you come have a look at the car you can tell its been looked after"
"Cambelt has been done, there is no proof but the previous owner told us he had done it and there is the old cambelt in the boot"
Even had a small argument with a chap who was adament the cambelt had been done by the previous owner but had absolutely no proof, no stamp, invoice or receipt. After I told him that service history was essential with these such cars he went on to say that no one services their cars on time and the low mileage is enough to show the car is good!
My response.

Not stupid just curious. All my previous cars have been bought from fellow SN members and have been mint. My last car EVO 6 was bought from an MLR member.
Not all garages however are equal, my mate owns one had all his cars are spot on 100% (non performance cars though)
The establishments in question are supposed to be reputable so it was unexpected to receive the responses I did. Just confirms my assumptions of the majority of car garages.

Bought mine from a main dealer for Ford in Grimsby I'm guessing it was PX'd but had come all the way from the same dealers in Bath. They guy did't know much about it at all, but it had FSH and had only 23k. I asked him about it being a parallel import from Malta when new but he just looked rather blankly. Seems very good so far and they gave me as reasonable price as they could for my PX which was a ford fiesta. But a lot of these big places are just sales people and will state the main selling point of a car as the CD player. Indeed his selling point for mine was 'you won't get stuck behind busses in this thing' ... No I guess I don't!
