Default Anybody willing to fire my car?

After spending the last 6 hours changing the centre diff and fixing a leak on the gearbox I've put it all together to find it has a whirring noise which gets louder the faster you go.
Really pissed off, think its vodka time.

could it be the rear diff, does the whining change when you change gear or does the whine go if you press the clutch?

It's there all the time just gets louder the faster you go, I don't think its the rear diff as it wasn't noisy before I changed the centre one.

It's a viscous coupling type diff and the replacement one I got looked exactly the same but had a different number stamped on it. The seller was off here and guaranteed me it was 100% v5 sti but now I'm starting to doubt him.

Im fairly certain its gearbox/centre diff related. Would also say its on the output side with it changing with speed as apossed to engine rpm.

I had a whining noise recently that got faster and louder the faster i went ( i presumed it may be a wheel bearing as it seemed very wheel dependant). But after fitting refurbed calipers/ new discs and pads etc - its gone!!!

Just a thought anyway fella??

+1 for thrust bearing - or even a wheel bearing if the noise goes when you dip the clutch

The noise is only there when the car moves, it doesn't matter if its in gear or the engines running, it changes with speed its at its loudest when on overrun and its quietest when accelerating.

ive got the same problem with whinning noise, like you its there all the time when accelerating and when in neutral with clutch dipped. when i move the gear stick left to right right to left you can hear the noise as well and can feel it through the gear stick. which i guess could well be the gear box for me.

I removed the centre diff tonight and the bearings goosed. Hopefully new bearing tomorrow and refitted tomorrow night and all will be good again.
Thanks for the suggestions.
