Default Who's running a VF48 on a newage 2.0 Sti??

As the title asks really, who is running a Vf48 on the newage 2.0 sti? what supporting mods have you got? what boost is it running and what power are you seeing?

some graphs to back it up would be nice too

Cheers

Above is a little dated but I thought the VF48 was more suited to the displacement of the 2.5 ?

A vf48 is not far off a new version of the vf34. so works fine on a 2.0L

2003 UK STI with
wrapped gt spec 3 bolt headers and up pipe,
3inch decat,
255 walbro,
650cc injectors
@1.4bar
on Vpower
with a Duncan/Dynamix remap (HIGHLY recommended) on a hot day & on a very reliable dyno that reads roughly 5% less than Surrey RR,

I know the big 3 bolt up-pipe is killing the spool, & some meth and a FMIC could make a nice improvement.

I've got an MD321T, and some more goodies ready to go on so the injectors and turbo will be for sale very shortly

2003 UK STi
VF48 / full decat / HKS panel filter / FPR / mapped by Duncan
Not sure on numbers ( If I can tell the difference numbers dont bother me) untill the RR day next month, but it pulls better than the VF35 I took off

I would think that the tubular headers are a bit over-kill at that level tbh, i was going to fit a set but after reading a few threads and having a chat with my mapper i decided to go the ported oem route and keep a decent spool up. You should have good figures once the md321 is bolted on and mapped

So is anyone getting near the 370 mark with pump fuel? Or is that asking to much from this unit...

you'll get that with methanol definately.. 350/360 on v power seems mroe realistic, depending on what turbo you currently run, you need to remember the vf48 is a newer turbo and the power delivery is a lot smoother etc. the car just feels like a newer car both on and off boost. hard to explain but u'll understand once you drive it.

I would think 340 more realistic.

I have done 373 on a blob wrx with fmic on vpower alone. Will see if I can dig out the graphs. Mostly they seem to be around 350-360bhp though

Biggest issue with the vf48 is that some of them dont seem to want to hold boost so with a 3 port and a polish of the mating surfaces for the wastegate penny to ensure a good seal is made it stands a much better chance of doing good things.

I still think a VF48 with 20% meth would be pretty damn great. I will get around to trying it one day..

FWIW I've got well over 360bhp with a VF35 on 20% meth mix, running standard top mount etc.

I will be retaining the TMIC aswell, still un-decided if i will be keeping the sports cat or going full decat yet. I need to find a centre pipe that is high flowing but still has a reasonater to keep it noise friendly?! any ideas.

The 2.5 will give different performance due to the low down torque mate but yeah let me know what you think of the 48.

Running a second hand 20k mile VF48 on my 06 hawk wrx. Made 334bhp and 381 torque when Duncan mapped it. Sti top mount, cobra 200cel sports cat downpipe, 2.5 inch exhaust as didn't want it too loud. 3 port, panel filter, walbro. That's it from memory.

Didn't hold boost great above 1.4 bar, so just below that now. Runs great, sounds great. Very happy. Should also be great on the 2.0 litre.

Good luck. You'll have a blast!

Good plan! But remember I am running a 2.5” exhaust with the more restrictive cat. Also my turbo had the typical crack in the exhaust housing that VF turbos can get. (Something that’s not supposed to happen on the later VF’s, but still does)! This could all be why mine only made 334bhp. To be honest I’m happy, cos with 381ft/lb torque its great to drive!

How bad was the crack in the housing?

I wouldnt bother porting and polishing it, the biggest difference with the ones that produce really good power and those that are around the 340-350 mark is the sealing of the wastegate penny. Where there is a crack the penny can sometimes bleed boost away. If anything make sure that it seals 100% to get the best results.
