Default hawkeye n/a owners help needed

Hi all, im just wondering if anybody on here who owns a hawkeye n/a would be kind enough to lend me a maf sensor for 2 mins just to see if mine is on its way out. tried fault code reader and nothing. taken plug out of maf whilst running and car almost dies. eml light came on code reader then attatched code p0113 came up. nothing pending. code states hight temp intake because maf was unplugged. dont want to purchase 1 from subaru for 560 unless needed. willing travel plz help many thanks all

my only problem is lack of power, torque and flat spots in the rev range. tbh i thought that there would be a difference between our old classic at 125bhp and this at 160. this is more poor than the classic. i know people say there are weight issues between them but this is not true believe me!!! i thought that if maf is taken out (if its not working) the car would idle fine still. this doesnt. plugs were new in feb. coil packs being checked, filters all changed. **could it be fuel pump on way out when under pressure??**

thanks mart

Can you log or look at how much air the maf is reading on you code reader? Really need to go for a drive and log how many grams per second of air its reading. This will give a idea if its reading accuratly

there was an update which subaru did to the ecu on the R sport model that sorted this out. might be worth contacting a dealer to see if this was done or if they can see any record of it being done.. did it do it before spark plugs changed???? does it do before 3,500rpm and then clears or all though the rev range???
missing a turbocharger------very funny.

maf is 486 plus vat i think its about 550-560 @ 20%.
Deffo missing turbo charger lol if insurance was cheaper it would have 1 hehe
code reader is just a generic canbus half cheap jobbie. but does say if there is any pending faults ie things breaking down, but it doesnt pick anything up. the car was like this when we bought it. it had a reader on it 4 weeks ago and then there was nothing also. came back up from eastbourne to stoke on trent ok, just when you planted your foot there was nothing there, then it would come a few seconds later. did use like 60 quid of fuel tho. 240m.

dont know john as it had the service inc iols etc before we bought the car, we are 2nd owners. majority of time its pulling off low rev, but even when your in the rev range say 4k in 3rd then plant it, you wont have none for a few seconds. so this should of had a recall then??

you should be getting more mpg than that, last full tank i used i got 300miles out of a full tank.(and not driving like a granny)
when u are in ur car next check the rpms and see at what rev's it clears (my guess is as above, 3,5000 rpm)
i had the same issue and found it to be crap fuel from a tesco/esso garage. changed re-fueling to a different make (in this case bp) and after a couple of runs, no more hesitation.
yes there was a recall about 2 years after the cars came out and they updated the ecu with a different map and heypresto no more hesitaion.

i didnt know there was a 2.5 n/a model in the u.k only in the states.
i know mine has had the update done my local dealer checked for me when i picked the car up 3 years ago, must not have been an offical recall.
is there any recommended non subaru garages near you???? i know there are a couple in wolverhampton that myself and other members swear by. might be worth a trip to one of them before you spend ur money on something u might not even need.

Are you sure you have been quoted for just the MAF casette on it's own or for the inlet tract to which it is attached. MAF casette is much cheaper.

Not sure this is your MAF.... ??

I had a flat spot on my 2.0r Hawkeye too. Was really bad.. used to accelerate from 30 to 70.. with not a lot of life in it then at high revs "ZOOM" it'd shoot off. It's definitely not supposed to be that way buddy. Told a friend who works in a Subaru garage what the problem was and he instantaneously said "ECU update." We were sure if it was damp from the valet but after taking it there, £35 quid and an upgrade later it was absolutely fine, driving like a champ . They're pretty nippy when working well!

would this come up on diagnostics?? ot just go and ask for the update. can the subaru dealership do this, or does it have to go to a specialist??

Not sure tbh! I presume it doesn't count it as a fault as it thinks it's working fine. Just phone up your nearest Subaru garage and ask them to update it. Theyll be more than happy to I'm sure, it's a known problem. No need for a specialist! Like I said, 35 quid for me, forgot I got that at "mates rates" though. Easily worth the money anyway . Lemme know how it goes!

thats pretty cheap if its a main dealer, they normally charge that for labour.cheaper than a new maf if it sorts out the problem.

subaru rang earlier and stated that there isnt a re-call for the map on our car and now the only thing they can do is diagnose and there is no promising this. All i got is for 94 pounds, you get oil/filter change. stamp in book. diagnostic/check report. a health check on everything and some printed out sheet of info. looks like this is my next step!!

have u tried calling or speaking to some other specialists???
u have thwaites developments in coventry.
mvs automotive in wolverhampton (highly recommended)
pole position in willenhall, to name but a few.

i am sure all these would be able to do everything subaru would do but for half the cost. it sounds like they are trying to get out of doing any update, unless they get paid for doing it.(which of course would not be included in the £94)

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but this problem sound very similar to the problems I am experiencing with MY07 2.0l RX, a lack of power from 2000-3500 rpm and frightening when pulling away. I have checked for any codes or pending codes with a simple code reader but nothing, I have reset the ecu and the car runs great for around 100 miles, I have also changed the plugs, again the car became very responsive and pulled very well but it has gone back to being slow and hesitant, I also suspect the MAF and have cleaned it several time with the correct MAF cleaning fluid. I also have strange tick over problems, revs will drop when coming back to idle then shoot back up to 1500 and then back to normal idle, using the aircon in the warm weather and the car would stall when coming back to idle.

Is it worth booking it in at a dealer? I am seriously considering buying a new MAF, but at over £500 its not cheap and may not be the problem.

I've had the car nearly 3 years now and enjoy driving it, this problem is starting to spoil that enjoyment and is become dangerous.
