Otis,
Unless you have a VERY bizarre policy....a windscreen claim WILL NOT effect your policy. I have NEVER come across this on a personal policy - sometimes on Commercial ones...but very rare.
Get Autoglass rung up!....Give them your certificate....pay them the £50.00....job done and sorted !!
Cheers

I have been told an insurance claim for a windscreen will not affect my renewal premium. I am going to check this with my insurer (Keith Michaels/NU) later today. However, has anyone had any experiences of windscreen claims as the insurance companies have been known to tell you one thing and then do something different .
I have no claims protection and this will be my first ever claim in 16 years.
Otis.

Morning M8y,
True...windscreen claims should not effect your NCD. If you are with Norwich Union the best thing to do is to call Auto Glass (0800 36 36 36) and arrange for them to come out and replace the damaged windscreen for you. They do not need a claim form, just sight of your "original" insurance certificate. You will have to pay a policy excess tho...again 99.9% of the time this will only be £50.00.
Hope this helps.

I've never had any problems, with direct line, just drop the car off / get them to come, out hand over the insurance certificate and £50 and that is all there is to it. I went through 2 windscreens in 2 years in my Saxo, went through the above process and have my no claims

I Believe some companies have a limit on glass claims - up to £500. So some people with the sti may have a problem especially if its rear window vandalism as I'm told this one is circa £1k!

I have had to claim 3 or 4 times over the years for windscreens (different cars and different insurence companies), never had a problem.
Always had to pay the excess (£50) although it is free if the screen is repaired (small stone-chips).
Check your policy, they usually have a number of the company they recommend (usually autoglass or silver shield), just give them your policy number when you phone and thats it.
