Default Nearly bought a Clio 197...

Just came back from test driving this one.

http://www.tynesideautoparc.co.uk/Us...sport-2.0.html

Not at all impressed, straight line acceleration was absolutely sh!te, really did expect a lot quicker, and this was the cup version as well. Interior very plasticky and the car had an all round 'cheap' feel to it.

Did seem quite fun to chuck about and the Brembo brakes had good stopping power, although on the test drive came across a Mini Cooper diesel and had to practically red line the thing through the gears just to pass him!

The bloody thing didn't even have air con fitted when it stated on the advert that it did, no good at all in this kind of weather. Best thing was when i asked the salesman to show me the mpg on the trip computer. Overall 24 mpg.

I can in all honesty say, even a standard WRX would muller one of these without question.

Funny thing is 172/182 did give me a bit of trouble when my WRX was standard, They are a car I have always liked. The 197's must be a hell of a lot heavier.

38mpg You must be driving it very 'sensibly'

38 lol is your name morgan freeman.

My mates got one and he can drive a bit and once on a country road they are hard to beat, doubt a standard wrx would even stay with one tbh, i spanked him with the type r when he first got it though as he thought he would stay with me after going in it as a passenger but i never drive fast with people in the car.

When i showed him a clean pair of heels he said he was going to get a subaru one day lol.

LOl your mates don't know how to drive if they are loosing to a standard wrx, emphasise the standard.

Look at the numbers, a well driven 200bhp front wheel drive gocart against a 225 or is it 215 wrx makes no difference really, with transmission losses makes it maybe 50bhp less in the real world, and its the shape of a house brick and probably weighs a 100kg more.

i'm not pulling the wrx down, but when the 197 is kept on song by someone that knows how, they are quick, my mates had his for 4 years and before you say it they got them out here almost a year before uk, he can drive and i only left him because i was running 320bhp and thats about what you need to loose one at least a 100bhp advantage and the know how to use it, because they shift.

There is nothing between a 197 cup and a uk Type R.

Totally agree with the above. My eldest has a 197 Sport on a 56 plate, standard. I struggle to lose him even on twisties, although I do pull away on the straights, if any. And mine is a 400bhp classic.

And before anyone says I need to learn how to drive..........cheers, but I no longer take the risks I used to, either with myself, OR the car

A type R or clio 197 would have no trouble dispatching a standard newage wrx after a rolling start

When my WRX was standard I came across a few Type R Civics, nothing at all in it to be honest, I think the Type R and Clio 197 are similar in the respect that you have to rev the **** off them to make any significant progress.

Not my thing at all, give me a turbo anyday.

My wrx was 240bhp standard. So don't know what your taking bout. i've raced a chuffing 200 bhp Nova and won, so theres no way a overweight french box would keep up with me. Offical firgures even say 0-60 on the standard uk impreza is faster than civic type r or 197.

I dont think that is true. There wouldnt be much in it, but the type R would not be as quick.

Above 60 the type r will be quicker than a newage 215bhp wrx, i have witnessed this many times, tuned wrx totally different.

Evo tests them and the Renault is .1 sec behind to 60. Both a second behind the newage, I wonder where the extra comes from, from 60-100.

Obviously you missed "the emphasis on standard" in my post, and as a 240bhp wrx is not standard you are WRONG
